flashing HD 5850 with 5870 Bios

hi there,

i bought a sapphire hd 5850 reference from someone who flashed it with sapphire hd 5870 reference bios.

my question here: should i flash it back with original 5850 bios & modify clocks with Radeon Bios Editor & winflash, or keep the 5870 bios??

some friend told me that keeping the 5870 bios may affect my card & cause problems later.

if i have to re flash, is winflash safe to use or should i use the flash stick method??

fast response will be highly appreciated.

If it is working well, you don't need to modify.

It should be fine with the 5870 bios. If anything the 5870 bios should give you a little more overclocking headroom.

If you want to flash it, WinFlash isn't very safe. ATiFlash via a USB key and DOS is the preferred method.

Many people did this without problems, but seriously i will not try it, just try to use the unlocked Asus 5850 bios. And yes atiflash is more secure. always flash your gpu or motherboard bios under dos.

I would keep it, I flashed both of my 5850s (PowerColor and XXX BE XFX) to a XFX 5870 bios and I haven't recieved any problems...I currently am running 900/1250 stable and stock voltages. All my games run flawlessly maxed out...I recommend using 10.4a drivers

Flash at your own risk

like erocker says this bios or the 5870 bios will just give you some overclocking headroom. but go for the 5850 bios, it's safer.

Yes, but it would most likely brick the card. So no, don't flash it.

i reflashed the card with 5850 unlocked ASUS Bios with 850/1200 @ stock volt.

it worked great & stable, but all 2D apps run with 157/300 .. i failed to make it run @ 400/900 even with full HD movies...

Yeah, silly ATi drivers... This works great for setting 2d clocks: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=117633

I would say that I have to agree with everyone that says ATI Flash is safer.

I also agree to flash your Card to a 5850 BIOS instead of a 5870 BIOS. Yes the odds are your not going to have any problems. But if you are planning on keeping the card for awhile.... I would say better safe then sorry.

I have a HIS 5850 flashed with the Asus 5850 Unlocked BIOS. Runs well and never had any problems. I would suggest using that one....IMO the best 5850 BIOS.

http://techpowerup.com/vgabios/58225...24.090925.html

It has room for Voltage control on MSI AB also Overclocking head room in CCC up to 1200 Core and 1400 Memory. Plus then you can also use Asus Smart Doctor too if you would rather then MSI AB. Asus Smart Doctor will recognize the card as a Asus EAH5850.

If you need help let us know.

***Edit****

I see you choose that Asus BIOS Good choice.... never mind my earlier message.
