New Acer Full HD monitor - irritating fault

I just bought an Acer GD245HQ monitor* to go with my nvidia 3D Vision glasses.

It would be a nice monitor, with good performance, especially with 3D gaming, if it didn't have a fringe effect around fine details. It's mainly to the left of dark characters on a light background where it has a thin bright band next to them. There's a bit on the right of them too, but not so much. This gives a slightly soft focus effect and is very annoying. Oddly, it's worst at the top left and best in the middle and towards the bottom and bottom left.

EDIT: The effect looks similar to an old CRT TV with the sharpness control set too high.

This effect is present on the analog VGA and DVI inputs. You'd really expect DVI to be perfect wouldn't you? It kinda looks like an artifact of the panel response compensation circuit.

It becomes somewhat less visible if you view it from a fair angle above the horizontal, but then the bottom looks a funny shade (TN panel) and it's not the right viewing angle anyway. My old Dell monitor, also TN, doesn't do this, so I don't see why I should put up with it on a new one?

I've had a good fiddle with the monitor controls and the app that comes with it, but to know avail. It goes back tomorrow and if another one isn't any better, I'm getting a refund.

Anyone else seen this problem?

*Previous one got stolen and I just got the insurance money.

Jayziz I was considering buying one of these!
I heard this monitor was great and didn't hear anything like this from anyone before.
I hope that your replacement will be better!

Well Irish, if you have even a slightly discerning eye, you can't fail to spot this, which is why it beats me how the reviewers didn't see it, of all people. Thing is, the problem is so obvious, that I spotted it quickly even though I wasn't even looking for it. How the hell does a supposed "reviewer" that is looking closely at the monitor miss something as glaring as this?! I would not have bought it, had the reviews pointed this out.

I went back to the shop and the demo model was exactly the same. This tells me it's a crap monitor, not a faulty one and I got my money back. It's quite expensive at £290, so it's nice to have that back in my pocket. The most awesome feature of LCDs over CRTs is a pin-sharp picture, so how the hell did they manage to make one with a blurred picture??

I still want a 120Hz monitor to go with my 3D Vision glasses though, so I'll just wait it out until better models come out. There's not much choice out there right now.

I have to give a thumbs up to the shop though for very good quality customer service today. Also, I've repeatedly had great service from them over the last two years. They are www.novatech.com in the UK and are therefore my preferred supplier for everything PC related.
