Creative Announces Availability of Sound Blaster Rock Wireless Outdoor Speaker

Creative, a worldwide leader in digital entertainment products, today announced availability of the Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker, the latest addition to the Sound Blaster Wireless family of products, designed to be placed outside bringing the music playing from a Creative whole-home wireless audio system outside. The Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker is a high-quality stereo speaker encased in a granite-rock like exterior, which complements any landscape. The Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker is designed to withstand moderate weather conditions so it doesn’t have to be brought in every time it rains.

“I’ve set the Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker up at my home and my friends can’t believe that such great-sounding music is coming from a speaker that they thought was a rock,” said Steve Erickson, VP and GM of audio at Creative. “It’s such a fun addition to the party because the music is playing from right outside by the pool and patio and it’s totally wireless, so I haven’t had to install any systems in my yard to get music.”

The Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker works with the Sound Blaster Wireless USB audio system, which is available separately at www.us.creative.com. The Sound Blaster Wireless audio system is incredibly easy to use; simply plug it into a USB port on any desktop, notebook, netbook or laptop and instantly begin wirelessly streaming from iTunes, Pandora or any other music application. Now with the Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker, music can be heard from your PC outside, up to 100 feet away. Absolutely no cables or network configuration are required.

The Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker is powered by a removable rechargeable battery, which delivers up to six hours of continuous music playback. The battery recharges through a separate powered charging cradle, which is included. The battery plugs easily into the back of the speaker, so the speaker does not have to be moved in order to be charged.

Pricing and Availability
The Sound Blaster Wireless Rock Speaker is available now at Creative.com for $199.99. For more information on all of Creative’s Sound Blaster Wireless audio system, including all of the indoor wireless speakers and wireless headphones check out Soundblaster.com and click on wireless audio.

$200 USD for only 6 hours of playtime? seems a bit short, IMO. also the fact they mention the battery pack as easily accesible means its easy to steal, and possibly not water/weatherproof.

Designed for restaurant, coffee shops etc with only 6 hours of battery life? There is no way. I think Creative had a really bad idea with this speaker

"Rock" competition?

My company manufactures small, glowing, chubby, winged child-like creatures that sing tunes of your choice (they won't glow on any music though... please exclude rock or other "demonic" stuff if you want to see their unearthly shine). They sing through their trumpets (horn-type Focal tweeters). The woofer is positioned somewhere on the chubby area...

They are natively wireless. Can be used as many as you like, even in a 10.1 config.

People that try to steal them were electrocuted of some sorts... couldn't fix the problems even now many years into this business. Could be some original design flaw.

Thing is, how I can get some "Press release" advertisement on TPU for them?

Unless you would setup a venue on a rocky place, I really dont see how would this complement any landscape.. would really look awkward.. and even if you place it on a rocky portion, not all rocks look the same,.. would definitely look alien.. and from the look of it, it looks like a mound of grayish matter..

I'd say they should have made it modular, have the outer casing detachable and configure it depending on what you want like a rock, a duck, poo, etc.. have those 'skins' sell individually.

Can Creative guarantee I can use it like a normal stone and throw it to someone with the same effects? If not, epic fail.

They look shockingly crap. And if the VP has friends that think a piece of naff grey plastic with a dented grill looks like a real rock, then his friends aint too bright are they? LOL. Perhaps it was dark...

If you throw a real rock at the rock, it will 'pop'. (groan, that one was terrible)

i'll just make my own from some decent 5.1 speakers..some concrete and some granite spray paint....of course they wouldnt be wireless, but you can run the wires under the deck to put around the hot tub...and it would be less than 200 for all....

Maybe I'm missing something, but when you call something "stereo", doesn't it require 2 or more speakers in order to create 3D (positional) sound?

I would actually consider something like this if it were $200 for 2 speakers.
Oh ... BTW, the wireless transmitter that is required to use this speaker is another $100.
