Win 7, DVD unit seek after resuming from Sleep Mode
So the problem is every time I resume from the Sleep mode in Win 7-64, if i open Explorer, Total Commander, Winamp, I-tunes, or any other program that got access to the hdd/dvd units, the PC freezes for about 10 seconds while the DVD unit is searching for a disk inside (there is no disk inside ...), or something. How can this annoying thing be avoided?!?!?!? Also when windows is loading, the same thing happens with the dvd unit, but the system is not freezing.

I'm not sure. Do you have the latest BIOS or drivers for the device?
This does not happen on my system at all when it loads or becomes active after hibernating.

Hmmm, I would check the BIOS to see what type of mode your Optical drive is set to, legacy, AHCI etc......
Also, are you sure its not your HDD's spinning up after being asleep. I get this often after my pc has been idle and I come back to use mediamonkey to play some music, it polls my music folder on a secondary HDD, and will take about ~5 seconds for the disk to spin up before it can respond to my commands. |

Have you tried another optical drive to see if the problem still exists?

Try turning off auto play and see if that helps. You can always turn it back on or adjust if for individual file types.
Link: How To Disable / Enable AutoPlay In Windows 7 ![]() Edit: You can, also, use Autoruns and, look to see, if you have a start-up programs, service, device driver, program, etc. that is pointed to on the drive; that the file, maybe, is missing. Also, run a disk check on your hard drive\drives and a defrag. Check device manager for any ghosted devices and get rid of the ones you don't use or need. Quote from The Windows Club page: "Beware that windows has a fair number of devices that are ghosted but should not be uninstalled (like devices in the sound, video and game controller class or system and non plug-n-play devices). GhostBuster marks most of these as services. Please note that these “Ghosted Devices” can be useful as well and is one reason why Windows never looks for drivers every time you connect the device."
