NEC Display Solutions Adds New 23-inch LED-Backlit Monitor to its MultiSync E Series

NEC Display Solutions of America, a leading provider of commercial LCD display and projector solutions, announced today the introduction of the LED-backlit MultiSync E231W, an addition to the popular 23-inch desktop category. This desktop display is designed to benefit a variety of business customers with financial savings and power efficiency.

The EPEAT Gold rated MultiSync E231W provides users with advanced features that were created to enhance the desktop computing experience and increase productivity. Its widescreen display allows users to have several applications open simultaneously, while its fully-ergonomic design includes 110mm height adjustment, tilt, swivel and pivot for improved comfort during use.



This E Series model follows in the green footsteps of its sibling, the 22" MultiSync E222W, with ECO Mode to reduce power consumption and heat generation, and an ambient light sensor to detect external light sources and adjust the display's brightness accordingly. Users also have the ability to track their carbon footprint savings with the MultiSync E231W's carbon footprint meter, a unique tool that calculates the reduction of green gas emissions. Additionally, the Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) helps conserve energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by switching to a low power state or automatically powering down when the monitor is on but not in use.

The widescreen MultiSync E231W includes the following features:

• Full connectivity with DisplayPort, VGA and DVI inputs

• Intelligent Power Management (IPM) system and off timer
• 5-preset Dynamic Video Mode (standard, text, movie, game, photo)
• Multi-directional OSD NaViKeyTM
• Windows 7, Windows VistaTM Premium and Windows XP certified
• NaViSet Administrator software for centralized control
• EPEAT Gold rating
• ENERGY STAR 5.0 compliance
• TCO 5.0 compliance

The MultiSync E231W comes with a 3-year parts and labor limited warranty and will be available for August 2010 shipment at an estimated street price of $299.

Hmm when they make a bigger one i might be sold i like the fact that the osd rotates with the panel that's one of my gripes about my current monitor, good price on that as well especially for a led backlight

Honestly I'd like to see new panels with smaller pixels. Perhaps a 24" 2560x1600 / 2560x1440. For a long time I was using a 17" 4:3 Trinitron monitor at 1600x1200, I miss the pixel size

I want one of those newer cheap IPS panels with the decent response times. Preferably 21in @ 1920x1080 for $300, maybe $350 with LED backlight. That'd be just about perfect. I thought I'd want a higher res but honestly it can be an eyestrain sometimes reading at 1080p, plus a ton of online pictures will just look too small.

and when is well made there is no bleeding or at least less, like we see in ccfl.

I think my next monitor will be a DELL u211h e-ips full hd, very affordable and nice looking. i personally like smaller monitors (22'') with a dense pixel count so the image looks sharper and i can save some performance by not enabling the anti-aliasing.

1. Yes, LED can have a higher lumens/watt ratio than CCFL. However, there is no law that says they must consume the same amount of power.

2. White LEDs produce worse "white light" than most decent CCFLs due to inferior phosphor(hint: they aren't actually white). White LEDs also cannot match W-CCFL, though wide-gamut monitors are not relevant until 10-bit or higher input/output goes mainstream. Only the very expensive RGB LED matrix is truly better than CCFL/W-CCFL.

3. Back-light bleeding has nothing to do with the type of back-lighting.

I know LED light doesn't create as full range colour as a CFL backlight, but I don't really care and I do 3D animation and graphic design.

For me its more about the amount of heat being put out!! I have 3 monitors (2 22inch Dell LED monitors and a 24inch IPS with CFL backlight). The heat output by the 24 inch monitor is insane!! It's like sitting in front of a fire place. The 2 22inch monitors are cool to the touch and I actually do like their white colour more than the 24inchs.

If I ever found a monitor with these specs I'd buy it instantly and have it shipped from where ever!!! But it would have to be in the $1100 range

You know thats the only monitor that fits those specs. I've been looking for months to replace my last CFL monitor. But for some strange reason no manufacturer out there besides Apple wants to (or can) make a similar specs model.

I'd totally buy a Cinema Display if it wasn't for
1. has only 1 display port connection
2. very glossy finish
3. no way to calibrate the colours on it without a mac.

Actually that raises a whole question about the LED colour accuracy. If its good enough for mac people to use in print media, video production, new media and web-site creation (ie. Graphic professionals) then why is LED colour accuracy not accepted when it comes to doing the same things on a PC? Almost every mac person I know owns a cinema display and they're all graphic designers of one form or another and they love their LED cinema displays.

Yeah, I'm waiting for a 27 or 28 incher myself wih 1080p resolution. And NO, the dottpitch is not big for that dimension.
