Just curious what is the perfect PSU i need to run a GTX 460?
It says 450, but that doesn't sound right, and even tho i know power supply requirements are inaccurate , 450 still doesn't sound correct lol.

Also even tho i plan to buy a gtx 460 oc 2gb or 1gb or oc 1gb ( when the price drops a bit ) , i want to buy my psu from best buy. I found this:

Considering the MSI 460 OC maxed out at 150W I'm thinking a quality 450W PSU should do fine.

The 650 your looking at is perfect man! :toast:

What are the other parts in the system?(im assuming its the one in your system specs)

A GTX 460 isn't to power hungry, and with that system you could get away with a nice 500-550w PSU.(and probably even a solid branded 450w) But if you're overclocking i would recommend going a for a bit more.

That 650w Corsair PSU is great, but it's a but to much for the system you're running.

450w should be fine as long as your 12v rails are strong.

Just for ref, my Poseidon Magma under load is 350w

Please note everyone i am not buying a GTX 460 for my secondary gaming system which is located in my system specs, thats my Dual core with my 9800GT( plan to buy a Radeon card to replace the 9800gt with tho( 9800gt as backup ) ) .

Considering the MSI 460 OC maxed out at 150W I'm thinking a quality 450W PSU should do fine.
I am not sure what GTX 460 i plan to buy. But it has to be one with 1GB + 256bit.

The 650 your looking at is perfect man! :toast:
Yea thanks :)

Yea i have my great dual core now, plan to go all out with a Super Quad + GTX 460 , finally with some DDR3 memory. :rockout: I should have my quad before the end of the year tho, most likely mid nov i will have everything :)

What are the other parts in the system?(im assuming its the one in your system specs)
No, planning to get a quad soon, a whole new system. ( my main gaming rig )

So i guess anywhere between a 500W and 650 is good.

Yea, I would get at least a 500w or more if you are planning on upgrading everything like you said. I have a 650w XFX PSU for sale here. I would do $75 shipped. It is like the one you originally posted, but modular.

Hmm, wouldn't the 768MB version be more spot on with lower power and your 17inch. Unless you plan on gettiing a new monitor too?

Anyhow, if you are getting a new PSU, then welcome to the GTX 460 club :) (although my card is still in LANGENHAGEN, DE)

i got a Cougar CM700 myself

Good PSU ;)

Hurr hurr and we thought he was trollin' this whole time
I never troll, i just have a difference of opinion on certain things.

Well i already said that OC is a waste of time IMO and in my honest opinion, i think it makes performance worse. I have a Intel celeron e3330 as my dual core system(secondary computer), 2.5ghz stock of course, my 9800gt stock and i can play pretty much any game at max or near max at 1280x1024 and still get way over 60 frames. If i would to OC, what difference would it make if the game is still moving over 60?
Also trying to get what a 5% or 10% performance boost is a waste of time if the game is already moving perfectly at stock. I just think OC is pointless, not to mention you can mess up your video card or cpu by doing it. I don't rent video cards, nor do i rent computers, i buy them to own them for years and years. :)

Probably one of the dumbest things ive heard in a while lol. But if that's what you've decided to think, then have at it hoss.

A free performance boost is always good whether it be 10% or 1000%.

OC makes performance worse? maybe, but a STABLE OC never :p We, at TPU, perform the stable OCs lol

psh believe me. in cpu intensive games. such as TF2 which is easy to run GPU wise, but enabling multi-core at 2.4ghz i dipped below 40fps. by oc'ing to 3.4hghz, i never dipp below 50fps. so it does make a difference, the oc just has to be enough to make it noticable fella :p.

Guys stop giving him crap about overclocking, he tried it and it didn't work out with his hardware so he's made his decision. He's making a progression as a computer enthusiast and thats what matters, not how fast or which direction he goes in first.

Just try to support him now, because we all know how easy it was to pick on him with the pre-builts. Even I got in a jab then but glad to see he's movin up. :toast: to you.

This is true
However "[good] overclocking makes performance worse" is logically flawed XD
