2 identical LCDs, problems

i have 2 of the same exact LCDs here. samsung 2343bwx

one is detected as "non-pnp monitor" and the other is detected as "samsung syncmaster 2343bwx"

i've tried analog and digital cables on both.

the non-pnp one refuses to run native res of 2048x1152 60hz

i tried to force it and the video gets scrambled.

i reinstalled driver for vid card. tried 3 different cards(9500gt, 2400pro, gtx480) and the same thing happens.

lcd seems fine at lower res.

any ideas?

Time to return it. I have the same monitor, when reading reviews I saw that some people were having issues getting it to run @ the native res and it ended up being a hardware issue.

It's faulty, period.

LCDs often semi-fail like this. Quite often, you can run them at a lower resolution as you've seen, but go blank/flash/corrupt whatever as soon as you try native resolution. The fact it won't identify itself is another giveaway.

Is it still under warranty?

The hardware in the LCD is defective. The stuff I read had the same problem, no native res, lower res ok, scrambled image on force, no difference with GPU or cable change.

I can search to see if I can find the info, it may have been in the Newegg reviews now that I think about it.

They are killer monitors though, love the pixel density

If you have the receipt I don't see why they wouldn't have it start from date of purchase, but if not I imagine it will be like a car battery and they will go off date of manufacture.

It appear to be 12 months from purchase.

Edit: damnit...that is UK info. Looking for US now. It is weird, I can't find warranty information for the US.

Quick search turned up one of the thread I read about the issue:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/26...amsung-2343bwx

So if its reporting that the native res is 1080, time to investigate a possible RMA.

Awesome, that's great service!

My workplace has bought Samsung monitors for years - and I mean thousands. They've performed well and lasted very well too. Great brand.

I would reserve judgment until I got the new monitor in hand At least they didnt ask for receipts or forms to be filled out.

As they didn't ask for a purchase date and receipt, this means that your monitor was built within it's warranty period, typically three years, so must be under warranty, regardless of when you bought it.

Wonder if they were both made at different factories. Seems the moment samsung noticed they were considered a premium brand they made all of their models a "lottery". I jumped over to viewsonic but now they're doing it too. I'm not sure I'd be confident buying any display at the moment, inconsistency seems to have become an epidemic with LCDs.
