Then there is no point getting 480 3-way SLI.
Unless you basically want the OP to overhaul his/her rig.
An i7 980X costs much more than most people's rigs.

@1nf3rn0x

sorry mate I should have been specific that I didn't wanna go over kill. I just want a rig good enough to do 60 fps in any game including the upcoming games in 2011, so far from what I've seen a single 5970 seems adequate.

You bumpin' the clocks? If so the 480's will do you proud.
As for the 60 frames, I think you'll get it. Though why are you using 2033 as a benchmark? It dosent look that good.

•PC Power and Cooling 1200w Turbo Cool PSU
Read the last sentence. I wouldnt feel safe with anything under a Corsair 1kW, ok maybe an 850W but would be cutting too close for comfort.

well thats for the nvidia cards i recommended triple gpus as 3 5850s are at 150w x 3 = 450 my entire machine oced seems to pull only in 500 range meaning i could easily fit a 3rd 5850 if i had the PCIe slot for it where as i know an oced machine with oced 470s will peak at 1000w+ full load as benched by sneekypeet its all relative tho pick what suits your needs. Some ppl are happy with 8800gt's still others need more oomph i say read the reviews around the net and let your wallet make the decision

waiting is nice but always waiting means u never get anything good im going to remind ppl of the wait for the 5k cards price drop lol i bought mine then for $259 each then they jumped to $320+ for a good 6-7 months so just a slight reminder waiting is good an all but i have a feeling that if the current gpus are at higher then msrp and NOT dropping the 6k series will be more expensive still and even then there only a 5k semi upgrade makes more sense to wait for 7k which will be the new arch on smaller die size

I never wait for two reasons

1. I can always resell even if its 10-20% less, in my perspective I look at it as "Renting" and renting is not free .

2. I CANT WAIT.

And yes I'm planning to resell this 5970 for sure.

I chose 5970+5870 since there was no 5970+5970 for total domination lol.
