need help heavy tape residue removal

I peeled off a MFG's label (laptop is new so the glue is not dry at all) on my laptop (was stuck on the palm rest area) and the tape separated from the aluminum label so it's not just tape glue I need to remove but all of the double sticky tape - film and all. I read that Goo Gone can make some soft plastics turn milky in color so I thought it best to seek help before I try anything/ Thanks

Warm it up, and it will be much easier.

Once you've removed the most of it(just rub it with your finger, it will take some time, but it will clump up, and you can remove the clumps), some isopropyl alcohol or varsol will rid the rest of it without issue. ISO first.

wax cleaner get rid of all that. Plus it polishes and removes small scratches from plastic. Look in your garage. You might have a bottle. (wax cleaner or cleaner wax).. Heck, scratch remover will work too. (Meguiars ScratchX).

If not, try some alchol diluted in a bit of water.

Citrus based solvents work on a lot of adhesives, but they're also very strong and you should try to test it out on a spot that will be less noticeable if it does cause a chemical reaction that mars the finish.

spray WD-40 an a rag and wipe it off, you wont get any dis-coloration at all... goo gone is a waste of cash bro trust me!

I use that all the time for the toughest glues with out a problem. after its gone use tap water and a fiber cloth to rid the WD-40 smell from the surface.

Citrus is natural and wont harm a thing unless you squirt it into your eye lol

While I was waiting to decide which technique to use, I called MSI tech support. For all those who said, "use 91% alcohol" you hit the nail on the head because that's what the MSI Tech said to use. He also mentioned using a hair dryer, if need be, to soften up the glue before using the alcohol. I just pooled the alcohol on the glue patch and used a fingernail to gentley scrap off the glue - it was dissolving and clumping almost immediately and I wiped off the sticky residue with some rags, then re-applied alcohol using a rag to give it that final, glossy goodness of a finish

I have used WD-40 in the past but for this glue the alcohol worked wonders - not sure how it would go with WD-40, hair dryer, etc but no doubt they would work too. When using alcohol, you just need to be careful to not spill too much on the plastic and have it run down onto and into the keyboard and/or any ports on the sides of the base (like Express Card slot, etc)

thanks for all the suggestions
