wd 600 GB VelociRaptor
Hello! Actually I got a "SEAGATE Barracuda 7200.12 500Gb" as hard disk. The problem is that I have only 14.3 GB of free space, and at the moment before installing something I have got to delete something else. Moreover I would like to improve my pc performance a bit.
I have seen some ssd solutions, but I think it won't improve my storage needing problem, because large ssd costs really too much. Moreover I wanted to wait some months to see a price drop, and lifetime improvements (I mean performance drop after some time etc). So I was thinking to buy a 600 GB VelociRaptor now, and in the future a ssd for os and most used programs, keeping the VelociRaptor for games and the rest of programs. The problem is that the VelociRaptor is not cheap at all. In alternative I've tought to buy a 2TB internal hard disk now(in this way I will solve the storage problem, but not the performance one), and later a good ssd. Honestly I don't really know what to do, that is why I'm asking your help to decide. My windows folder is 17.4 GB big, while my program files (x86) is 150 GB big!! I've seen the WD2002FYPS RE4-GP at 200-220 euros, or I could buy a cheaper 2 TB hd. Do you think the price difference between WD2002FYPS RE4-GP and others 2 TB hard disk is worth? How is it my seagate 7200.12 compared to the 600 GB velocirator? The seagate 7200.12 is a good hd? Thank you in advance, and sorry for all these questions! It's just that I'm very confused! |

By 2-3 320gb WesternDigital caviar blacks and run them in RAID 0, they'll be pretty damn fast, cost cheaper than the VelociRaptor and will probably be much faster.

I don't know. But putting three 320gb wd inside my case doesn't attract me at all. I got 4 hd bays inside my case. In this way I wouldn't have space between them at all.

Get 2 640GB Blacks in RAID 0. Faster than the velociraptor. Just don't be storing anything important on it, because when one drive goes, you lose all your data forever.

If you want cheap and fast storage get one of the latest 1TB hard drives from Hitachi, Seagate or Samsung, you can't go wrong; WD is always a bit more expensive. They use two 500Gb platters and are as fast as the latest Velociraptors while being cheaper. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/sto...roundup-3.html

I also recommend the Western Digital Black series. Maybe the 640gb as your main and a 1tb or 2tb for storage.

I'm still undecided, but I think I will take a 2 TB hd now, and a ssd later, when their prices will drop. If you got some suggestions I'm here to listen.
