SATA Problem!

Please help if you can, I have a problem with my sata drives, when i plug them both in to any of the 4 sata ports they work fine, when I then connect my new sata dvd writer the system seems to stop detecting my hard drives

This is my system:

P4 650
Gigabyte GA-81955X Pro
2 gig DDR2
2 x Maxtor sata 100gig HD
1 x Plextor PX-755SA DVD RW
1 x crappy normal DVD drive
1 x 6800GT

Hope anyone can help me, I'm struggling to fathom it out, pretty new to all this sata stuff

Thanks in advance

Are the two hard disks in RAID? Sometimes you need different drivers for raid and non-raid (for example when you install the raid driver for the silicon image 3114 it will as you "is there any non-raid drive connected to the controller?").

Try connecting the sata dvd without any other sata devices and see if it detects it. Also when you say it's not detecting it, is that just windows or does it not show up in the BIOS either?

I wanted the hard drives in raid 0 initially but couldnt get it working so I just left them as normal. The dvdrw instructions basically just say plug in the cables and it will self detect Kinda wishing I'd ordered the normal one now instead of sata

for some reson the drive will not even eject yet their is power going to it, I tried 1 hard drive and the dvdrw and still same happens. just wondering if its driver related
