Valve promising three 'surprises' within next 12 months

Quote:
In an interview with PC Gamer magazine (and relayed by sister site CVG), Newell promised that his studio is planning to make three more surprising announcements over the coming year.
Quote:
"We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least," Newell told the magazine. "I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do. That isn't going to stop anytime soon. I'm just laughing because…people will be shocked again."
Quote:
One of those surprises may be Valve's involvement with Defense of the Ancients, a tower-defense-style game that began life as a map mod for Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft III.

Lets hope one of those announcements is Episode 3!

I love Valve surprises.

I am wondering if one surprise might be a movie...

I would prefer that. To be honest to see a new half-life on the same Source engine would be rather disappointing for me.

that's what I was thinking - he wouldn't laugh about how "surprised" people will be that HL3 and Portal 2 come out... at least, I don't see the surprise there.

Yeah Source is definitely starting to show its age. That's my other concern with Black Mesa outside of still not being convinced I'll ever get to play it.

Even the tie-in of Portal and Episode3 is expected, and has been expected since the Portal release.

Now, I know that the TF2 character vids were precisely practice for making a movie, but Valve has not announced this(a movie) yet. I fully expect a Machinima from Valve within 24 months, and while this may be expecting it a bit early, my ideas for how the HL2 world will progress kinda needs something like a machinima to tie it all together. Maybe I'm giving them too much time...

Just remember, I said it here, first!

Valve is going to introduce biometrics into their games so you can tell if your opponent is anxious, sweating, etc. The've been experimenting with it lately.

HL2: Episode 3, due to an enormous amount of development time, was deemed too big for a single launch so they're splitting it into 3 sub-episodes.
Here are the three surprises:

1st -> HL2: Episode 3: Sub-episode 1 coming December 2010
2nd-> HL2: Episode 3: Sub-episode 2 coming March 2011
3rd -> HL2: Episode 3: Sub-episode 3 coming September 2011

There's also talk about selling independently each chapter from each sub-episode (from episode 3).
Gamers will be able to pre-order Half Life 2: Episode 3: Sub-episode 1: Chapter 1 (~30 minutes of play-time) starting tomorrow, for $4.99.

Knowing your opponents state of mind in a game could be a huge advantage. Especially in very intensive shooter.

well yeah but we're only talking AI here - there's no way to read a person like that in multiplayer so what good is it really? the increased immersion would not be THAT great imo, and not worth being a "surprise"

Sad thing is, is that this is how things MUST progress, to make things more immersive. Nintendo is doing it too.
