Yeah @ 1.75 vcore. So you need a lot of LN2 and a good MB in order to do it.

I wonder if all of the CPU's and ram are individually tested before the competition to assure they have very very close to the same capabilities. I know they were binned the same to become 980X's in the first place, but I would assume there is still decent room for variation there, and thus the luck of the draw.

Obviously there is a heap of skill involved in putting the chip under LN2 and clocking it, but it still makes me wonder.

Might be boring to many people but I'm curious to see what was presented to the competitors as the rules. Is there a published link anywhere?

Gigabyte got 80 CPUs and selected the top 15. Variation should be minimal.

Way to go Matose ! All gamers/overclockers from Romania are proud of you. Your victory in Taipei will go down in history (of overclocking and pushing CPU capabilities to extreme limits). Respect!

Did they also select out of 80 motherboards and 80 ram kits of the same models? Because those are variables as well with these more modern chips when it comes to overclocking.

Minimal is still something, considering some scores are separated by 0.001, I honestly think that luck can play a part in this, given every conestant is doing essentially the same thing. Like I said before yes skill plays a massive part too, but for example; if the same contestant set up/overclocked all 15 mobo's/ram/CPU's, he probably wouldnt get the exact same results on every setup would he?

exactly my point, when the scores are that tight, these factors must play into it somehow.

I think everyone should've benched on the same setup. That's the only fair way to do it.

The only fair way to do it, is to have everyone bench on the same rig. Unfortunately, time probably prevents that.
