Dell OEM GTX 260 1792 bios upgrade

I guess it has been shown that the Dell GTX 260 216 1792mb card has been detuned. My question is can the Palit bios for a GTX 260 216 1792mb card located at the following link:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/5...92.090704.html

be flashed to the dell / alienware / hp OEM card without killing the card??

apparently while it has the 216 shaders and 1792mb of memory, 192 shaders is all that is accessed. This was done (rumor) to reduce failures, overheating, power consumption???

I did not know that. I have the Dell GTX260 1792MB w/ 192SPs as well. This would explain a lot, because I thought that the 55nm ones were all 216SP.

Mind trying it to see if it works?

I dont think the palit bios will do you any kindness, I have the gainward GTX260 1792mb, 55nm c216, it's manufactured by palit (exact same design) and they use a non reference PCB and different clockspeeds. I wouldn't flash it on a Dell OEM.

hec I had no idea Dell was shipping PC's with GTX260 1792mb cards in them!

if the oem did not providing the bios support then you're out of luck. because most of oem card are aftermarket and PCB layout may be different from reference and most of retail model. although even you can flash the retail card it's have to be under exactly same brand/vendor . like you can't flash evga bios on an asus board even they are the same gpu..

so all you can do is extract the bios from your card under nvflash(which is not really possible/or not easy since yours is f*** already...)save it than put it in another pc and start edit it with nibitor. i did this when my 9800gtx f***ed too
