Fermi Prices dropped. What are you going to do??

Now that fermi prices have dropped i think its time for me at somepoint before 2011 to get a 2nd GTX470. How about you? Are you going to finally switch to fermi or wait, or even get more for sli and folding??

i hate ATI drivers that is why i have stuck with Nvidia. I even sold my 4850 less then a week after getting it because of the drivers.
I am a folder so the gtx460 would be better for that.
But what it will come down to is the cheaper card. I will be running the 8800GTS along with what ever card i get (be it nvidia or ati) so i will still have about 4.5k ppd at the least.

yeah for sure. I cant decide if i want to get a Evga(since they have been getting low VIDs lately) or the MSI Twin Frozr II one. I have a Asus right now with a 1.0v VID and it would make it hard to get both cards to overclock right when the msi or evga has like a .950v compared to the 1v i have right now.

Im liking how nvidia is getting competitive with pricing. I mean they were a month after fermi was released when the GTX470(sub $300) was giving a hd5870(sub $400) card a run for its money

Fermi prices haven't drop, at least here, no HD 6800s either, but even if they eventually drop I'll wait until all HD 6k series are out. Some pretty bad deals can be made if one doesn't play the wait game now.

Running those drivers here (just updated), no hassle. You're sounding like a fanboy, please stop. Also, for roughly the same price for the 470 there's the HD6870 with similar performance, so like I said, playing the waiting game.

It's not like they had a choice. Either lower the price tag or start loosing market. Also, the HD 5870 is supposed to compete with Nv's GTX 480, not the GTX 470. That would be the HD 5850.

I left ATI not too long ago for the exact reason you are stating here. That ATI drivers suck!

But you know what I found out after that? SO DO NVIDIA'S!

I loved my EVGA GTX 460's. They were great cards and they broke the mold. Great very powerful cards for a great cheap price. They got this price ware started which is a win for everyone!

But.... I also had allot of problems with Nvidia's drives. The first set when the GTX 460's were first released weren't that bad. They didn't give the performance boost the 260.63's or the 260.89's gave but at least manual fan control worked. I didn't get the occasional crashes.... also I didn't get the major micro stutter.

The thing is some people might say "It's your hardware combination" But I seriously doubt it.... I was using a EVGA Motherboard/ and EVGA video cards. Or did you whip all your old ATI drivers first "Yes I did a clean install of the OS"

So trust me Nvidia has just as many problems as ATI. The good news with ATI is at least....if the drivers suck the next batch is only a month away. With Nvidia it's "When ever we feel like it."

Also this isn't the first time I have had Nvidia drivers problems..... there has been a million problems I can recall from the past with Nvidia's drivers too.

Just saying when you look from it from a both sides view.... I have found ATI and Nvidia driver problems are about the same 50/50 of them being good or being bad.

God you don't even want to get me started on the drivers problems I had with Nvidia's duel Chip cards. Both ATI/AMD and Nvidia really need to work on that major fast!

Considering the (FUD released) specs of the GTX 580, why bother? But keep dreaming, it might actually happen...

I have learned that they both have there problems. I pick to deal with the Nvidia problems because of the fact that i like the lay out better and i have been using Nvidia since Geforce 2
So i have learned my way around Nvidia drivers but with time i will also find my way around the ATI drivers. As you have said and as i have found out they both have there problems that is why i am now willing to go with the one that has the best bang:buck and power consumption.

I agree. I've had my 4850 for about two years now and haven't had a single issue with drivers. It's definitely a hit or miss game.

okay and have you seen how much performance nvidia has pushed out of the cards with recent drivers. the GTX470 has surpassed the 5870 and the GTX480 is only 5 to 10 slower then a HD5970 now. I benched all these cards in comparison and the GTX470 won in every game other then Crysis and Vantage over the HD5870. Thats why i have a GTX470 now. If it was still worse then a hd5870 i would still have my asus 5870 i had

No bud I totally understand that one bro. I am a guy who started out with ATI way back with the X1650 Pro.... (So I guess not too long ago but still awhile) So I feel the same way.... I prefer ATI because of being way more comfortable in their GUI.

Actually with Nvidia's install GUI just recently changing..... it actually reminds me more of ATI's now then Nvidia's traditional Driver install GUI.

Kind of funny that were talking about that. But don't you think??? I personally think Nvidia just completely took ATI's Install process and made it their own.

At least that's My opinion.

Point taken, but considering the release of new ATi...err...AMD cards, especially with the HD 6900s around the corner, I say wait, at least until all of them come out, then choose and buy. Then go for the performance, or best price/performance ratio, you want to have, regardless of the maker/model. Since drivers are as much of a hassle for both teams.

Drivers for me have always been better with nvidia. and i like being able to force different options in specific games rather then forcing it for everything like AMD (its hard to say AMD now for graphics cards) Id probalby just get another 470 and sli them. thatll handle everything for a while
