nVidia Quadro 5000 Temps

Hi Guys,
to be brief we have a number of Lenovo D20 workstations on site, all have nVidia Quadro 5000 GFX cards (bar 1, long story...).

Anyway straight to the point:

Is there any bios mods for a Quadro 5000 to modify the fan profile or any tools i can use to permanently mod the GFX fan profile on a system?

Our users have standard limited accounts (Windows 7 x64) generally so off hand Speedfan or MSI may not work (not tested yet but we would rather not have to install more apps unless last resort).

Temps on a few machines have hit the 80+ centigrade mark and the users hadn't even our CAD application open.

Any help is appreciated.

Thnx & regards
FC

Which program are you using to check the GPU temperature, could it be that it's a false reading?
Are the cards hot to touch?

Launch speedfan as a service, or in all users accounts.

Or use ATI next time. (joking)

I'm sure you can mod the BIOS yourself with a more aggressive fan profile, do the cases have good airflow?

Hot to touch yes, especially as you go closer to the rear of the cards exhaust of course and CPUID HWMonitor.

We have compared a number of workstations, some run fine up to 75~ with a full model opened.

The case has very good airflow in general allthough under the GPU is a bit stale, cool but stale.

Is it difficult to mod the Quadro BIOS to do this?

I have personally built 2 CAD machines using the Quadro 4000 as wee jobs on the side and used MSI AfterBurner/Speedfan to kick the fan up a bit at temps over the 65-70 mark. Them users had admin rights, well 1 did the othe I used speedfan on and took a day to get working under a limited user account.

As for thr ATi Comment - 2 ATi cards to date - 2 dead! (Personal experience lol)

How hot would the cards that ran at 80C idle get after loading a complex model?

Could it be that the fan starts kicking in at around 90C (I'm only guessing here)?

I don't know much about BIOS modding so I can't comment on that.
My opinion would be to try some software solution, I personally wouldn't try any experiments on such cards.

EDIT: Found some review of the card that includes temperature http://www.geeks3d.com/20100728/nvid...-with-furmark/

They would reboot or freeze so enver really know, id say not far away from 100 mark as from idle to model theres a 20 degrees variation.

Aye we dont wana kill the card like but if its software it means every time the PC is rebuilt the profile needs to be redone and akward to get working as limited user. lol 50+ users!

I would suggest you contact Lenovo about this.
The issue is not the high load temperature (these cards can run at 90C with no problems), but the very high idle temperature.

The cards should be idleing around 60, I'd RMA any system that isnt working before u go and void the warranty on a $2000 card
