gtx470 at 106c?

I accidently made my gtx470 go up to around 106c today for a very short period of time....

I put my fan speed locked to 30% and went to make food, just to see what temps i would get at that speeds in idle.

When i came back , i launched up AvP , after just a few minues, i saw the temps on the card was over 100c (actually around 100-106c), so i instantly alt-tabbed out and i saw that the afterburner showed me a yellow , very short line instead of the normal green one, which happend to been running at 106c for maybe a few split seconds, it was running just over 100c for maybe 60seconds.

So i put the fan speed to 100% Asap and the temps got lowered pretty much instantly.

Now to the question: Is there any possibility i damaged the card? Ive readed everywhere that its made to withstand 105c, but it was at 106c according to afterburner (in a game)

Ive tried a few benchmarks, i also been gaming now for 5hours straight after that just to see if i see anything wierd, but it seems Ok...

Worth to mention: when i saw the 106c my heart almost jumped out of the chest

Before I messed with fan profiles my 4850 saw 105+ regularly. And it still does just fine.

Yeah its fine, when I was messing around with the Voltage controls and max overlocks on my 470 it got up to 106C super fast with 1.087v running through it. You quit out of AVP faster than I canceled OCCT, and my card is just fine

I have had my 470 to 108*C and the driver always crashes to save the card.

Your card has obviously survived being cooked this time and there's the possibility of a little heat damage on it, right inside the chip or the board, where you can't see it. This tends to build up over time if this is repeated, so be really careful never to let it happen again or you may have a brick at the end of it.

Don't fret too much over this one time though, it's likely to keep on working for a long time to come - certainly long enough for you to get your next upgrade.

I can assure you that silicon does not melt at 105 C. The damage take another form.

And to be honest, my good old 9800gx2, which has the same 104 C max temp, survived to two hot summer where she folded 24/7, reaching the throttling mode pretty everyday at noon. As the temps go down, she would stop throttling and return at the oc i set it to. Never stopped folding, just slowed down to keep temp at 104C. And yes this yellow line is pretty scary!

I would tell you to check the fan profile to be sure this kind of error never happens again, and relax, as if you've ruined your card with this little of overheat, then god really don't like you...

Hehe, but im not rich in any way, so this card cost me a smaller fortune, thats why i got so freakin nervous

The thing is that i was watching a post here on the forum where a dude wanted to know what temps the gf100 chip has when its used at the lowest temps, so i set mine to 30% (which is the lowest i can set it to) and went to make food, when i came back, i totally forgot that i had it set to 30%, so i started to play some alien versus predator, and after a while i saw the temps, first i thought it was a software problem, but when i alt-tabbed out, i went into deep chock because of the yellow line and the peak at 106c.... i never have any luck, with anything.
So if it would have died it would not surprise me, then it would be pretty much the luck ive always had

But it seems it survived so im happy panda atm

thats kinda hot enough to cook, i did that on my processor when i forgot plug in the fan connector =D, but the higher temp u got could reduce its life time
