Acer Readies AMD Fusion ''Brazos'' Powered Aspire One Netbook

Acer will be one of the first adopters of AMD's "Brazos" Fusion platform for its netbooks. The company is developing a new 10-inch Aspire One model, the Aspire One 522, which makes use of AMD Fusion C-50 "Ontario" dual-core processor clocked at 1.00 GHz, with TDP of under 9W, and AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics embedded. The x86-64 processor cores are based on the "Bobcat" architecture, feature the latest instruction sets, while the graphics core supports DirectX 11 and UVD 3.0 video acceleration.

The 10.1-inch screen features a native resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which can be extended onto a HDTV or a monitor using HDMI. Most other features including connectivity are similar to existing Aspire One netbooks. The battery can provide 6 hours of usage on full charge. Acer is expected to unveil this powerful netbook in early 2011.

Looking good, anyone have any idea of performance figures of the graphics and the cpu?

Makes me wonder how this 1GHz Dual Core core performs against Atom N270.
I'm talking core vs core, because clearly, in real dual core situations, AMD is better. But what if only 1 thread is used.

Other than that a nice looking thingie. I have an Aspire One AOA150, one of the first Aspire One models. Upgraded it with extra 512MB of RAM and a speedy 7200RPM 500GB drive. But still i hate the GMA950 on newer games and lack of HD acceleration.
If the price will be good i might replace the old one with it.

I just bought an Aspire One with an Atom N550 (1.5ghz dual-core 4 threads 1m L2 cache 8.5w) and it runs 720p without issue.

hd 6250 is going to run at 280mhz. and its puny 1ghz dual, only 2 threads
I don't think this notebook will win against ion2 platform

Gotta say, I'm digging the green. Looks like an awesome netbook, and should hopefully be able to play Source games at 720p (hopefully even the single core version will be able to).

very interesting looking netbook, I wouldhave hoped it would have the faster clocked CPU and GPU though, it would make a big difference given the low clockspeeds of all models.

after what i have heard, the AMD out-of-order architecture is better when it comes to 1 thread, they said it feels faster and snappier in a preview somewhere

Core i5

An Ontario tests showed an Ontario Dual core CPI with int. Graphics ran games Faster than a Core I5M with the Integrated Graphics, ION2 will NOT be able to hold a candle to this in both speed and architecturally.

With dedicated VRAM that thing would be great, the question is however...does it have dedicated VRAM??:??

That was the notebook version, which is clocked at 1,5GHz for the CPU and 500MHz for the GPU and is rated @ 18W.

This will perform ok-ish vs the standard atom, not sure about the ion version. But it will sap much less power than ion that's for sure.

I really dig the green theme - it looks very fresh.

My old athlon l110 killed the n270 the sempron I have underclock to 1.5ghz is est. To pull 9w (cpu watt calc) and that keeps up with the current atoms single and dual core. Ion isn't going to save the poor performing atom...
