Axle Intros its GeForce GTX 580 Graphics Card

Axle announced its GeForce GTX 580 graphics accelerator. Based almost entirely on the NVIDIA reference design (including cooler shroud labeling), Axle's accelerator also sticks to reference clock speeds of 772/4008 MHz (core/memory, GDDR5 effective). The GeForce GTX 580 from NVIDIA is built on a 40 nm process, it packs 512 CUDA cores, and 1536 MB of memory across a 384-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. Expect standard pricing for Axle's card.

wake up? they've been on adderall n speed for bout a year now. they're just now running into bumps along their tech roadmap as everyone does. I personally wont' start bitching unless they end up delaying the 69XX series till late dec-jan.

n i must agree with AFQ, the Nvidia look with just the AIB's logo has always looked better than all those rainbow colors that are usually thrown on plastic shrouds.

Not the 69xx delay that I'm on about, but just the whole price bump on the "mid-range" cards, the name change (which despite all the rationalisation, I still abhor) and the power demands, size, 2GB per card (in mid-range upward for Eyefinity), etc of the new 6xxx cards. Although I'll recant on my power complaint if the 6950 cards have 2x6-pin.
I just feel AMD have loosened their belts a little too much after nVIDIA's GTX480 folly & their Evergreen success. They gotta pull out quite a few excellent product lines if they hope to reach nVIDIA's scale and play on a more level field, and they won't do so slacking off after 1 or 2 successes.
I am just talking on dashed hopes, however, and the reality is that AMD are doing quite well, so don't mind my naysayer perspective.
I was hoping for better prices, shorter cards (, more memory) and less power demand... which they did, but in a sub-par manner IMHO.
