Upgrade to GTX 580 questions

Hello,

Here is my current setup :

AMD Phenom II X4 965BE @ Stock
Sapphire Radeon HD 5830 @ Stock
Antec Earthwatts 650W
G.SKILL F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH Ripjaws PC3-10666 4GB 2X2GB DDR3-1333 CL7-7-7-21
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 AMD870

Playing at 1680x1050 (22" monitor).

1. Will my CPU bottlenecks the GTX 580 that much ?
2. Do I have enough power for this video card ?
3. Is the upgrade from a Radeon HD 5830 to a GTX 580 worth it ?
4. If not, can you suggest a different upgrade ?

Thank you.

I would up your multi on your CPU and OC to about 3.8ghz, that should remove any significant CPU bottlenecking and you should be able to do that fairly easy without too much tweaking just maybe a small increase in voltage.

Your PSU should handle the 580, though at your resolution I don't personally see the point in spending that much on a GPU, your 5830 should play all/most games at high settings.

+1 to NdMk, but get an aftermarket cooler like Xigmatek Dark Knight to keep your processor happy. There is no need to get a GTX580 if you are only gaming on 1680X1050, a 5830 is more than enough to run most games at high/ultra high settings. But in the future you might want to upgrade to a "GTX570"

Alright, thank you.

I guess I'll save some money and upgrade to a GTX 570 / 6950 a bit later.

How demanding are you of your games? Do you like to play with vsync on and over 60fps constant? Do you like to play them with physx and at the very highest settings? The reason I ask is that obviously the HD5830 can play all games at your resolution but can it maintain consistent framerates on ALL games at the very highest settings and provide physx?

There's no question it's a very capable card (5830) but if you can afford the GTX 580 and can answer yes to my questions then go for it. Mafia II with all the highest settings and full physx all on the one card DONE Crysis Warhead Enthusiast with AA DONE Batman with full Physx and image quality settings DONE...you get the picture. Not only that but if you do decide to upgrade to a higher res monitor in future it will also perform superbly as well.

As far as upgrading goes.....grab what makes you happy.....upgrade the monitor later on down the road.....and enjoy fluid like graphics today and then.

Hope it helps.

that would be a sidegrade at best, do not do that. I would get the 580 it is a massive upgrade and you will see much better numbers with it. your psu will handle it but i would get a better one as soon as you can. oc the cpu a bit more and your golden
