That cooler is more than sufficient for 3.4 Ghz with a 940.

You could always just replace the fan to a high performance one and see if thatmakes a difference.

I know it will work but it gets upwards of 80F in my room during the winter I was thinking about zip-tieing a 120mm 90CFM fan to it

I'm all for zip ties, always. Try it out and see what difference it makes.

Make sure the base is flat and lapped and use the highest RPM fan you can tolerate.

that could help, but don't forget the heatsink is fit for a 92mm fan. Have you thought about buying a larger cooler? Like maybe one that can suit two 120mm fans (push/pull). You can find some really cheap coolers out there that perform very well.

yes, im agree, lapping heatsink, use better themal compound, better fan (bigger and high air flow) and last fixing your casing air flow
i guess its kinda enough to cool the heat, especially you dont overclock it too much

First off, a tower cooler is only unnecessary if your not overclocking. Second, water cooling has more room for error that can lead to damaged hardware more then a tower heatsink. The story about your friend is extremely rare in most cases. Just use the cooler up have, overclock your 940 and have fun!

That's not true, when mounted properly with a good backplate you should be able to swing around the mobo by the cooler, and I have done, I also give it a shake just to make sure it's on

yes , the reason why many heat sink on tower form is the wider area that you get to dissipate the heat,
water cooling is nice, they perform well, they could give you lower temp when you overclock it, but it needs get checked periodically and if it fail or there any leak, it could kill your system instantly
