crossfire bridge. Do you need it?

I am looking at the crossfire compatibilty chart on the AMD site:

http://game.amd.com/us-en/content/im...ombo_chart.jpg

and in the bottom right corner it says "Internal ATI CrossfireX interconnected". what does that mean? I have read in different postings where it has said that this means that you do need the crossfire bridge and in another post said that it means you do not need the crossfire bridge. Can anyone verify which one is correct?

Yes, you need the bridge. Im pretty sure that's referring to the bridge being internal (inside your case). Early crossfire setups had an external cable connecting the cards hanging off the back of your case.

No . I have never been able to get one with the MB or even with a Video card . I had to order mine separately . Go figure Just another fuck up from ATI . When I got my nVidia cards I always got a SLI bridge !

Depending on who you purchase it from; check the packages contents before ordering\buying.
I have gotten one(sometimes two) with every ATi card (that is crossfire capable) I have purchased, also, got one with my Gigabyte MB.
So, look at the contents of the package and make sure it includes what you want\need.

IMHO you shouldn't have to look at the box , They should include this stuff in every box with out fail . But they do not . it is not hard to get the bridges but it should be included in there box .

It is generally dependent on the make and model you buy. Same goes for NVIDIA and SLI bridges.

I agree . Looking at the box and contents is a good idea . But for the most part it will say crossfire ready but not list the bridge as a part that is included . The HD XFX5770 had tons of information on the box but nothing about it coming with a bridge . Same goes for the MB I have . it listed tons of information but as far as parts went the list was not there . I think it is just a hit and miss with some .

Wow. I just sent a techincal inquiry to XFX and asked them if my 4850 was supposed to come with a crossfire bridge. They said it does not come with a crossfire bridge but they will send one to me anyway.

Without a bridge.. or two, you're going to have problems.

The only time I've heard of NOT using a bridge is when setting up Hybrid Crossfire(IGP + lower end gpu for example: 780G + 3650) or back in the X1900/X1950 days ATI drivers did support software crossfire but that didn't last long.
