No, ya dummy:

You can't change the thread title, only mods can do that
Change the name to what?

He has been doing some overclocking with it and managed around 950mhz core and 4.4ghz memory, once he has a new CPU he will love the 460 even more.

And to think, the other options were things like ATI 5670 or 5770 i think everyone will agree now that its working right the 460 was defiantly the best option

Yeah, you'll be all right doing that. It fixed it for bear jesus's friend (see his earlier post) so I'm confident it will work for you too.

If you get any problems later, start a new thread and we'll help out again.

Good luck

Often when i do any kind of major upgrade i will be lazy and run it for a little while on a used os but within a week i install a new copy as for one i have had many little issues that have been resolved on a fresh install but also I'm pretty lazy so a fresh install is an easy way to clean up

Yeah, it's brilliant, isn't it?! I love cats and this is an excellent lolcat. I found it on the Photobucket home page when I went to update my siggy picture the other day. I'm still trying to figure out if they've photoshopped the picture or not.

Here's the original, full size version:

Im surprised noone has said this yet, but Try the Quadro 265.90 drivers with modded inf.

I use those for my gtx470 and they are the best yet. Huge performance boost in some games.

I had problems with low-gpu usage before in certain games.

These quadro drivers gave ma a significant improvement in FPS in some games..... i got about 40fps more in BFBC2, and about 100fps more in TF2.
(NO JOKE)

TF2(dx9):
Geforce 260.99: 20-50% GPU usage
Quadro 265.90: 70-99% GPU usage

BFBC2+Vietnam (dx9,dx11):
Geforce 260.99: 20-70% GPU usage
Quadro 265.90: 90-99% GPU usage

Two Worlds 2 (dx9):
Geforce 260.99: never tried.
Quadro 265.90: GPU usage 95-99%

Alien versus predator (dx11)
Geforce 260.99: GPU usage 95-99%
Quadro 265.90: GPU usage 95-99%

No change in starcraft2 tho...

These quadro drivers cannot be downloaded anymore from nvidia site, but can be found if searched on google for quadro 265.90, try get a hold on the modded inf otherwise you cant install them.

Otherwise, nvidia has said they will release the new geforce driver in beginning of january, which will most likely contain all these fixes I experience was fixed in the quadro 265 driver compared to the geforce 260.99 driver that also adress low-gpu usage for certain games.

Low-gpu usage IS a problem due to "older" CPU's, thats a fact, and it has been stated many times now. Nvidia will however (with the time) modify their drivers a little here and then for older cpus to work better with their new gpus.

I know nvidias has specifically targeted BFBC2 for low-gpu usage with "older cpus" to be fixed (its fixed with these quadro 265 drivers, and the january drivers will contain the bfbc2 low-gpu fix aswell). Its just a matter of time until they fix more stuff. Give it time, or upgrade to i7 and all issues will be gone anyway.

Merry christmas and a happy new (gaming) year!

Great pic, thanks. yeah, that monorail lolcat still gets me even now. I think it's that utter concentration at something unseen that makes it even funnier.

Hey guys. A guess i am really out of luck. I tried re-installing Windows from scratch, i even bought a new card, now i iwn a gtx460 HAWK Talon Attack, but the same problem is still there. Low gpu usage.
For example in CoD Black Ops i play at 1680*1050 evrything maxed out, and i get gpu usage around 35%.
That does it, i am going to the red camp again. Anyone interested in a Gtx460 Hawk talon Attack?

What FPS do you get while playing and what CPU usage do you get?

you need to setup the game profile in nvcp so the power usage is max power not adaptive.

change it for each game, not global or it wont downclock during 2d stuff.

Cpu usage is around 60% (for all 4 cores), but gpu usage is from 35-50%. Fps fluctuate from 50-70.

why are you complaining then? 50fps is enough.... and we're talking about black ops, a extreme console ported game, its not entirely designed for pc

The reason why i complain is that no game gets more gpu usage than maybe 60% tops. And i didnt buy a graphics card that gets used 60%, i want it to run at 100%, even if it means 100+ fps.

Try another game, like crysis for example

You do know that higher fps then 100 means higher stress on the GPU, right? more fps = more stress on capacitors etc.... in short description: gpu life gets shortened while having abnormaly high fps.
Also i see that you have a q6600 at 3ghz, thats a little low , and old... you cant go buying a new graphics card to and old computer, you wont max the graphics card out, and believe it or not, but the performance can get worse then a slower graphics card (and older) because the card is getting bottlenecked by the rest of the computer in such a significant way that performance sometimes can be worse then it was before.

We've seen this happen over and over again, and its not something new.
I suggest you try some other game. We all know that black ops have alot of problems so just complaining because you dont get 100fps in black ops when you get atleast 50, is to me, pretty stupid....

I get the same GPU usage as you do, but in WoW... and WoW is like what... 6 years old? what does that tell you about black ops?

try BFBC2 , check gpu usage there.

Also, what drivers are you using?

Sorry for that, just noticed that Dirt 2 gets 99% usage. I am using forceware 266.35 drivers.

Oh, and my quad is at 3.6 not 3.0, i dont know where you got that idea. I would say that your q9400 is a bigger bottleneck to your 470, than my q6600 is to my gtx 460. Even though i have it overclocked to 900mhz core.
Thanks anyway, i didnt know there were so much problems with black ops.

That would be me and my thread, but i never solved it for black ops (i think), i did play trough the game in single player on max settings and i did not have any problems at all, thats why i didnt even check for it. But when a game becomes unplayable due to low-gpu usage, then its time to start figure out why.

I have no idea how much gpu-usage i get now in black ops with quadro 265.90 as i dont have it on my comp anymore, sorry

I had low-gpu usage in pretty much all games with 260.99.

Also the quadro 265.90 dont work with gtx460 :/

my experience of low GPU usage on a 9800GTX and GTX460 has only ever been caused by two things, the first was a CPU bottlneck, and you can test this on the same CPU. either overclock it further (if possible and see if usage rises, or clock it down some and see if useage lowers.

the other reason was settings not demanding enough to take full advantage of the card and the CPU takes over. for isntance I get roughly the same FPS in Crysis @ 1920x1080 with 4xAA as 1366x768 with 4xAA, so my CPU is holding back higher FPS at lower res.

the way to test this is try the most stringent settings possible, ie max the IQ and AA and see if the useage goes up too.

other than that A fresh install of windows usually goes a long way

This is true, if playing on lower resolutions, you are gonna need an extremely fast CPU to not bottleneck the graphics card in all games (we're talking 980x) if you wanna see high-gpu usage. Otherwise simply just raise resolution by buying a new bigger screen or just up the settings... i play on highest possible settings, in all games (except metro2033) and then i get alot higher gpu usage then when i play on lower settings.

I found ambient occulsion set to quality in the nvidia control panel to raise gpu usage in sc2, but ofc it lowered the fps a little.... higher gpu usage does not always mean more fps, in some cases it does, but not all
