Hello everyone! this is Radeon 9600 question

Hello Overclocking forum people!

Im a newbie in overclocking and have downloaded ATItool to overclock my radeon 9600. it doesnt have a fan on it so it was thinking: is it worth to go out and buy a fan for it? will all this overclocking really is affecting the graphics in game? i saw people get to about 550mhz but what does it say? is that good or not that fancy? i mean, on absolutly new games it may not that matter but what about 1-2 year old games? i need to remove all the effects when i play splinter cell: chaos theory for instance..

hope i didnt bore u too much

Thank's in advance.

I'll get the fan if the OC will be worth it

I mean does it worth the money (whatever the cost) to buy a fan cos if the OC doesnt help performace noticably I just wont do it.
My specs:
P4 2.8Ghz (on ASUS MB)
512MBddr
ATI Radeon 9600 (not XT or PRO)

well it REALLY depends on yoru card mate some oc very very well and some DONT

but there will be 1 definite bonus if you buy a fan which is that it will help your computer run cooler! so you might be able to oc mobo

also i recomend you read other threads on your card so you can get an idea of how well it will clock

u will c sum oc really badly but then u get the other 1s that oc WAY OVER THE TOP!

and then from that you make your own decision because i cant recomend you buying a fan as i have never owned that card! but if you do get a fan there SHUD be a performance increase

ok leme c how i can best explain artifacts!

they are like errors when you overclock you card click find max core and i will stop once an error is found so that will be you highest clock on the core then click on find max mem and again it will stop on an artifact and that will be your highest clock on you mem

then meet it like half way or over kinda fing and then click show 3d view and you will c the furry dice thing if you see yellow bits then lower the clock accordingly until they are gone also pay atteintion to the bottom of the furry dice screen the numbers will kinda flicker if clocks are a bit too high lower it agin until this is gone ang BINGO you have you clocks!

hi mate i may be able to help you now!!

go to this link

http://www.techpowerup.com/wiki/doku.php/atitool/start

and follow exactly the same path it has here so settings

and then at the top u will see a tab click on it then go to temp monitoring and then if i remember correctly you will see options saying "log temps for vpu" click that and any other that say anything similar and get it to alternate between temps of mem and core and then you should see ur temps on the ati tool tray icon alternating between core n mem temps!

try this n let me know!

agen if it dnt work il get bak to u this evening!

hi sorry for the delay in getting back to you

steps are as follows!

run ati tool click on settings

top tab click down and select temperature monitoring

and then click on the top box u see and click it it shud say "monitor card temp"

then lok at the tray icon bit directly under that and select "alternate both temps" this shud do the trick!

also then click on the top tab again and go into miscellanious and click the second tick box which reads "remove radeon 9000/9200/9550/9600 clock lock"

try this and get back to me with ur results i.e if this worked or not, clocks etc

there is no monitoring on the rv350 or the 9600 non xt cards. and yes it is your card. i have a 3ghz northwood p4 and a gig of ram and my friends with faster video cards and same cpu get much better results in oblivion. these cards hit their prime about 2 years ago. now that spot is the x1600pro

Getting a new fan and overclocking should get you better performance on the games you play. At first, with my X800XL at stock 400/490, my score on 3DMark05 was ~4900. When I overclocked it to 444/540 with EMT and a new Zalman VF700-Cu, I get ~5900 on 3DMark05. Games like Call of Duty 2 run smoother too!

OR you could liquid cool (Like some people) and overclock the living daylights outta it. Yes it will wear down faster but not as fast as if you were overclocking w/ a fan.
