CrossFired 5850 Or Sell It Off?

as the title states - Im currently in a dilemma - I can either get another 5850 and crossfire with my 5850 to give me around 6950/6970 performance Or i can sell it and go with a single card instead. the 1 powerful card i was thinking about was a 6950 since they unlock into 6970s (thanks to Wizz)

What would be your best advice??

Sell it, get a 6850. Get what you can for the 5850 before the prices drop more. Down the road you can then add another 6850 if you need it.

Personally. I'd get another 5850. Simply because it requires less work. Roughly same performance.

BTW nice clocks on the current GPU

Do you mean 6950?

Just checkin' since you might be telling him to downgrade!

Although not future proof, 2 x 5850 makes easy work of everything out there besides 3d11. I think you should save your money right now and get a better upgrade in 12 months.

Bare in mind not all games support crossfire belive me i have 2 5870's and some games i have to dissable crossfire to avoid bugs, Black ops aint crossfire friendly yet, I get less frame rates in crossfire mode, But i get more frames with a single card.

So id say it depends what games you play really,
Its not as easy as linking 2 cards and enoying lots of fps in every game just dont work like that.

Id go for a faster single card. Crossfire and sli are just unnecessary headaches

IDK, even without the unlock potential the scaling is pretty unprecedented on 6000 series esp 69xx that's what won me over and made me decide to sell my 5850 and get two 6850s. Use less power too. Well that and the fact I got them $310 shipped AR. Here tomorrow.

5850 worth closer to $200 on eBay though I may just try to sell it here first for $150.

Either option at this point would be good or even a perfect choice although if you want a bit more power (from the options available) you should get another 5850, but if you want to keep up with the latest graphics technology and possibly buy second matching card a bit later on then you would be better off getting a 6950.

but its 10vs5 in favour of grabbing another 5850 in my poll lol

I'l definitely have a look into selling my 5850 - Ive tried to offer it to a friend but he doesnt quite want to upgrade yet after buying my remaining 4870 not long ago - Might need to take a little sweet talkin

but what the hell I'l put it up for sale here n see how it goes. though I probably wont be shipping overseas.

Crossfire love, is more crossfire love and hate lol probably a bit more hate tbh cos getting games to run bug free is cirtainly easier with one card,

Bad company 2 supports xfire, I run it all on full and the fps is lovley but f i run and press jump it will lag out and this aint due to cards not handling this is a xfire bug / driver bug cos with one card its just fine.

I guess when things get more complex be it hardware or software theres just more to go wrong.

Bleh - they can cost £25 more!!! but we shall see theres not that much choice in the market at the moment, Just Some Asus, Sapphire, Powercolour & XFX cards floating around and XFX are the cheapest.

I could probably stretch to getting this Gigabyte one Gigabyte HD 6950 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI Dual DP O...

but the XFX is just the same as all the other cards so why pay more?

I don't have that problem of jump lag with crossfire in BC2. Maybe it's a crossfire bug, maybe it's NB volts? Sorry to add to your list of bugs

To be fair though, crossfire does have more things to go wrong.

@TopicStart's Question

I'd try sell 5850 for around 150 at minimum, and buy 6950 for around 250ish and see if you can unlock it. I just sold my 5870 for 200 and bought a 6950 expecting it to unlock to 6970
