???Old onboard hardware and cpu sucking???

I know that onboard video sucks energy on old cpu like a Intel celeron with 100mhz fsb but do you think that other onboard stuff like sound and LAN are sucking cpu power also? I have my old download rig and i dont use sound, serial port, parallel port and could put in a pci lan card instead of onboard lan.

What do you think and WHY ? Im asking why because many people around give advices freely like that but are not even able to explain with some technical features. Thx !

BTW the mobo is ECS P6STMT skt370
Celeron 1.2gigs
652mgs pc133
32megs onboard video

Thx !
