Gigabyte Launches an Exciting New Slate PC
GIGABYTE, a longtime leader in computer technology and innovation, today announced an exciting new 10.1-inch slate PC, the S1080. The S1080 features a Windows 7 operating system and is powered by an Intel Atom N550 dual core processor.
“The S1080 is designed to be the ultimate mobile device to fit the demanding needs of consumers who need a high-performing multitasking slate that offers the full productivity of a PC,” said Stephen Lee, Sales Director at GIGABYTE Notebooks. “With the S1080, users now have constant access to all their business needs including email, internet and other important applications.” Weighing under 0.90kg (1.98lb), the S1080 is both sleek and light, making it the premier choice in mobile computing. With a massive 320GB of built-in storage, users can add all their important applications and files without worrying about whether there is enough space. The large hard drive also makes it the perfect device to load custom business and enterprise applications. The S1080 also comes with USB 3.0, which provides incredibly fast transfer speeds making it very useful for a mobile device. Featuring a striking 10.1” multi-touch backlight TFT-LCD 1024x600 display, the S1080 produces bright and clear images. With its stunning display, the slate can be used as a captivating tool during business meetings and presentations. The S1080 also comes equipped with a built-in VGA port, which allows users to hook up an external monitor or projector whenever a larger display is needed. For onscreen navigation, the S1080 features the best of both worlds to maximize effectiveness. The 10.1” capacitive multi-touch display featuring the Windows 7 on-screen keyboard and handwriting recognition software makes navigating the display by fingertips both fun and a breeze. Or, for a more traditional PC approach, users can navigate the display using the navigator button and left and right mouse buttons to easily move the cursor around the screen to conveniently access applications and edit documents. The S1080 is the perfect mobile device to stay connected while on the go. The slate comes with wireless 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, which makes it incredibly easy to access email and the internet whenever the slate is in range of wifi or a mobile hotspot. The built-in 1.3mp webcam is also an excellent feature to give users convenient mobile videoconferencing options. |

Talk about a
to Apple. Then again, people who buy the iPad don't mind spending that kind of money in the first place for an oversized iPod Touch.

I definitely agree, but at least it has a VGA connection instead of none at all.

an all in one slate that also works as a portable HTPC/media PC would be fantastic. it'd fit multiple roles. knowing me, i'd set up a small table and my own dock next to the couch with cabling under the carpet, so i'd use the slate and its touchscreen controls to control the HDTV (on monitor 2)

Makes me wonder why no one has done this during the rise of netbooks. All you have to do is make battery a bit more flat, ditch the keyboard/trackpad and replace the regular screen with touch screen. Because that's what these things are, keyboardless netbook.

I own the Archos 9 Tablet (windows 7) and it is a killer for all except AAA gaming and writing a lot (well, could hook a regular keyboard up). Use it in bed, kitchen, bath, travelling... And it runs Unreal, Return to Wolfenstein etc
![]() But miss the HDMI for easy hock up, yes! (but for that there's a Nokia N8, )Also be advised that W7 is not extremely touchscreen friendly, but making the vertical scroll bar a lot bigger you get nearly there. And with Windows you have the REAL "apps" and not the mobile phone rubbish, be it iOS or Android, yes i returned an Androoid powered tablet before getting this one ...) |

This. USB3 + HDMI (not that I'm a fan of HDMI, I still think they should've run with DVI instead) would be awesomesauce.

May sound stupid, but have you got the OS running in touchscreen mode? Because there is a touchscreen mode and it makes everything annoyingly big, you should try it if your not at the moment. |

HDMI is better due to the audio. its also the smaller port of the two. DVI takes up too much space on such small machines. also, if you need DVI you can always use an adaptor/cable.

BTW, I don't think Windows 7 will ever be well suited for fingers. Windows 8 will probably be better that way.
EDIT: Not that I have anything against it, but still. I'd pick a semi powerful Win7 tablet over Android and iOS any day of the week.

hence why the eee slate is so killer, comes with a wacom digitizer pen that works as the mouse and provides handwritting recognition but also the display is multi-touch for fingers. yeah its a bit more costly than most tablets but the extra money is justified by the hardware and its abilities.

I imagine you may of found this setting but just search for touch in the start menu search and you should "make text etc etc etc" go there and change the setting to what you need.
Has +25% or +50% I tend to find +50 is a bit to much and can cause UI problems in certain programs though. |

That's pretty much what I meant. It would've been cool if they had pushed the standards for DVI to include sound as well.

then it wouldnt have been DVI, it would have been the replacement to DVI. which is HDMI. or maybe displayport.
