Laptop processor question

My mom has a dv6000 with the core duo t2250 1.7ghz. I want to upgrade her to the V13 su7300 1.3ghz which is currently on sale for only $400. I really like the look of the v13 but not sure abt performance

I recall the dv6000 has 1gb ram and 120gb hd and it ran win 7 almost no lag. the V13 has 2gb ram and 320gb 7200hd

The Intel SU series is (clock for clock) worse off (in performance) than the T series, because the SU is designed for low power. Personally, I believe you are better off upgrading the existing laptop's ram and a harddisk than to get a new laptop (presumably your mum only plays Facebook games and things like that). Cheaper and you end up with a more powerful rig. That is, if you don't really care about the battery too.

The T2250 is first gen Core tech, which is horribly dated. Really the only difference between Core2Duo CPUs and the SU series is the lower clock speeds for increased battery life (massive drop in TDP). The SU7300 is based on the Penryn Core2Duo, the T2250 is a generation behind.

ahh it's just that she wants sth resembles the macbook air but it's a bit out of budget. according to here the su7300 is like 200 points better in performance (not sure if passmark cpu is reliable)

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

and it's 2gb ddr3 vs 1gb ddr2 (?) and 120gb 5400 vs 320gb 7200 ? plus it's like really cheap right now

ONE MORE THING this v13 come with a "mobile broadband" thing that i'm not sure if i need to subsribe for wireless? you can see it if you scroll down to bottom of page. I assume not but just asking

I would take it. The battery life is going to be superb compared to the old laptop (3hrs seems on the lowside, although it will also depend on the battery- it might be a cheap 3cell instead of the more standard 6cell).

Mobile broadband is if you want to use internet provided from cell companies. You will not need to buy anything for wifi use

I use a laptop with similar specs (SU7300, 4GB DDR3, 4500MHD) and it performs extremely well. I use it more often than my i7 and in day to day tasks I can't tell a difference.

I have a 6cell battery and a larger 14" screen and I get 4hr30min out of the battery with Wifi on.

Opps, I need to be more updated with my Mobile processor specs That said, the "upgrade" is still more of a sidegrade, and personally I wouldn't do it but upgrade itch happens to anybody

About the mobile broadband thingy, I think you will have to pay for a monthly data plan to use it (at least that's what happens over this side of the pond). Its just that the dongle is built into the laptop.

You pay the subscription to use VZW (3G) mobile broadband. If you do not get that option or pay for that service, you will still be able to use your own Wifi or ethernet for internet.
