Unmanaged Network Giga switch
I got a chance to pick up an 8 port Gigaswitch for really really cheap.
but a quick question before i do - If i was to put one of these in my network. would the transfer speeds be faster then a direct PC to PC connect?

No.
Your network would run at the same gigabit speed, with just a tiny bit of latency added in. Not enough for you to notice without benchmarking tools. Where's this offer then? I'm interested myself.

Q is right, it will not be faster than a Gigabit direct connection between two computer.
