GPU question

Hello. I have a friend and he wants to change his old GPU (9600GT 1GB) with a newer one (used one).
This are the options for him:
1.4870 x2 - 110€
2. 5830 - 115€

Suggestions ?

PS. Don't bother with an HD5830

4870 X2 would be a better overall choice. More brute power than a 5830, and 5830s are the black sheep of the 5800 series.

get the 5830.

x2 cards have lots of driver problems (since they have to run crossfire) and uses tons more power than the 5830.

you also have DX11 with the 5830, native HDMI and native display port (that may vary, but it will help in the future if it has it)

if its strictly a choice between those 2 cards, i would still go with a X2. DX11 isnt super relevant atm and DX10.1 is still coded into games. Unless the 5830 was cheaper @ like, say 85-95 pounds, then it would be a better deal IMO.

I know its Toms but FPS in gaming dont really vary from site to site : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...70,2834-7.html . 5830 is in the same league as 4870/90, whereas the 4870 X2 is rivalled only by the 6970.

This. You also have to consider the PSU your friend has because of power consumption. The 5830 is a huge jump in performance over that 9600GT.

I'm pretty sure a few days ago somone had a Gigabyte GTX460 Super Overclock card for sale for 105 Pounds, that would be better than both, and he's in the UK.

out of those two choices in the OP I'd take the 5830 tho.

EDIT: [FS] [UK Only] Gigabyte 460 GTX 1GB Super Overcloc...

its 95 Pounds now.

Yup 5830.

4870X2 worked just fine for me as does the 3870X2 no driver issues on the newer drivers
