Xeon 3440/i7 & SLi or Sandy Bridge?

i am still thinking about if i should buy a Intel Xeon 3440 or i7 processor and another MSI N460GTX Hawk so it will be Quad-Core with HT and SLi or Sandy Bridge setup? like Intel Core i5-2500K and motherboard while BioStar or ECS bcs i don't want to be like everyone else with Gigabyte or Asus.

I had this dilemma not too long ago. I was considering going SB or New motherboard and new RAM plus Water cooling.

After talking with people here and seeing my buddies SB system.... I decided to wait till Ivy Bridge or Bull dozer releases.

The i7 800's are great CPU's that will do the trick hands down. Plus from someone who owns a couple i7 800's and have witnessed new SB in Action. I can tell you the biggest place you will recognize a speed increase is in benching. Not too much real world stuff.

I would go SLI and i7 860 or 875

You're rig is just a TOUCH faster than mine, stemming off that: SLI and don't worry about cpu if it suites you fine for your usage currently.

I have a SB and a 1156 based rig. Minus the SATA problem, SB is noticeably faster in boot and load times, and awesome for benching. For example, my 2500k/Biostar TP67XE matched with a Gskill Pheonix pros SSD boots into windows in about 22 seconds. If you are a gamer, you will never notice the difference. So, it's all about what your hobby is and needs are.

i do convertions, winrar packing and gaming the newest games and i will try keeping cpu and mobo updates limited to once a year, but if i won't feel any performance from a Xeon/i7 around 4ghz to a Sandy around 4ghz than i will just keep what i got and pop in a Quad-Core with HT and another card for SLi maybe, still it's not like a GTX460 is a bad card ^^

but i got so many things i want to my pc but not the money, so typical :<

but i hope when i get some money at spring i will jump on the Quad-Core with HT and maybe pop in another GTX460 card or change med 3x1TB drives to 2x2TB instead to get more space but on less drives also to save some power, but i will see what my budget will be by that time anyway thx ^^

going from 775 platform to 1155 platform: yes, it is worth it
going from 1156/1366 platform to 1155: no, not quite

just change to a X3440 and enjoy, then upgrade larger when x58 replacement comes out. just my two cents

isn't the LGA1155 the new platform to replace LGA1366 and X58 chipset?

i had read that the LGA1155 with P67/H67/Z67 should could with a bios update support Ivy Bridge too, but i dunno just asking ^^;

Nope, 1155 replaces 1156. LGA2011 will replace 1366.

To be honest I concurr with most of what people have recommended in here that you stick with what you have, grab and i7 860 and another 460 and be happy. No real point going from 1156/1366 to 1155, at least wait for the LGA2011 chips later this year, hopefully that will be a more noticeable upgrade.

no, the platform to replace LGA1366 is LGA2011 I think. Suppose to be released later this year.

oki, i will try from when i have money and written a week to see if i can dig up a used i7-875K that would be a nice gold i don't want to buy a new one too expensive i think if u compare it to a i7-2600K so if there is no luck for i7-875K or i7-860/870 for 4ghz oc i will go with the Xeon X3440 ^^;
