XFX 6950 (Shader unlock only) need help.

Hey guys,

Ive got a XFX 6950 2GB,And im trying to unlock the extra shaders ONLY,Not wanting it to go to 6970 specs as i hear people have had problems with their cards doing that so i want unlocked shaders only.

So ive downloaded a Hacked 6950 bios that unlocks the shaders only,Yet keeping the 6950 stocks and voltages the same.

Problem is ive tried all those methods mentioned in the article on here and none are working.

All i get is "Cannot Erae ROM"

Ive tried the Bios switch in both possitions and neither will let me unlock :/

Appreciate any help.

Ok what I did was install WinFlash Dl the HIS BIOS RAN WinFlash as ADMIN then programed card...rebooted it was that simple...make sure you run WINFLASH as ADMIN and that you place the HIS BIOS in the WinFlash Folder to make it easier to find.

Hi. I´m new here. Yesterday I modded my own XFX 6950 Bios to unlock the 6970 shaders only.

Here is a good walthrough maybe you´ve seen it before.

See ya!

ps: I you have the message "Cannot erase rom", you should take the long path. Here´s a brief and good explanation by W1zzard.

When attempting a reflash, do you have the vid card in the slot closest to the CPU ?

If the reflash goes mad, you have to use the Bios switch on the 6950. I prefer to have the card on the first PCI-Express (the closest one to the CPU).

That's where it should be, when flashing the card.
Still waiting on the OP to confirm.

The card has the BIOS switch set to position 2 by default.
Flip it to position 1, then flash the 6970 BIOS into the card.
Leave it in position 1 and restart computer after you flashed it successfully.

And you should then have unlocked shaders.
If you ever experience issues or it for some reason doesn't boot, you can flip it back to position 2 and walla, you're back to stock shaders.

Position 2 is a locked BIOS, so you can not flash any bios into it when it's set to that position.

And starting Windows or any OS in the position 2 of the Bios Switch, you can always make a backup of your 6950 stock BIOS.

Dont flash the 6970 bios into the 6950. There are known issues about dead cards (not inmediately, but yes in some time).

Flashing with the 6970 bios your 6950 memory could fire up, because of some voltage increase.

The safer way is making a backup of your 6950 bios, and modding it to only (ONLY) unlock the shaders of the 6970. With this you get no changes about voltages and frequencies.

If you want to OC your card, simply make it manually.

See ya!

You're all not reading Nevakonaza's original post.
Nevakonaza has tried both position 1 & 2 and failed.

So no need to keep suggesting this. Nevakonaza's problem is somewhere else.

We have yet to hear from Nevakonaza as to which slot he has installed the vid card on the motherboard.

"-unlockrom 0" ASSUMES you have installed the card in the first slot on the motherboard.

So to get a "cannot erase rom" error means the atiwinflash program cannot find a rom in the first slot to erase. Either that or it's a read only rom that cannot be erased. We already know this is not the case if Nevakonaza has tried both switch positions. So it might mean that the vid card is installed in another slot apart from the first slot.

well if you have xfx 6950 2 gb ver 1.1 (if you don't know the version check your vga box and the side of the box you'll see a label which has information such as serial number and etc). first of all
disable UAC (user account control) in windows then download this bios http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/9....101204_1.html
then use atiwinflash to update your bios
most of people got error because the UAC is enabled in windows.
by the way! don't forget to increase power in CCC to 20%
good luck!
