GeForce GTX 550 Ti redefines PC gaming at £119
PC gaming just got a lot more fun today with the introduction of the GeForce GTX 550 Ti graphics processing unit (GPU) with an estimated e-tail price of £119. The GTX 550 Ti is the latest in NVIDIA’s Fermi line of consumer GPUs, designed to deliver stunning DirectX 11 performance. It brings a new level of price/performance to mainstream PC gaming, while maintaining exceptionally quiet acoustics and requiring minimal power.
Like all NVIDIA “DX11 Done Right” GPUs, the GTX 550 Ti delivers the world’s fastest performance in its class for DX11 games. Compared with the closest competitive product, the GTX 550 Ti is up to 50 percent faster in today’s newest DX11 tessellated games, and 38 percent fasteri in previous-generation DX9 and DX10 games. And with NVIDIA SLI technology, the industry’s most scalable multi-GPU platform, gamers will be able to increase their PC’s gaming performance by adding a second GeForce GTX 550 Ti. “The GTX 550 Ti paired with our 3D Vision technology provides gamers with an amazing low-cost platform that delivers an awesome immersive experience,” said Drew Henry, general manager of GeForce GPU business at NVIDIA. “As the leader in PC gaming hardware, we are excited about the future of PC gaming and how we can make those experiences as immersive as possible. With an estimated selling e-tail price starting at £119, the GTX 550 Ti is available starting today from the world’s leading add-in card partners, including, ASUS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, KFA2, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, Point of View, PNY, Sparkle, and Zotac. In addition, today sees the launch of amazing new GeForce GTX 550 Ti Systems. |

Will put up USD value as soon as I have it. NV's US marketing team is a little slow today.

Overpriced and underwhelming. £130 is 460/6850 territory. If it was released sub £100 then maybe they could have a song and dance.

Looking at reviews its priced at $135 USD, and its performance seems to be between a 5770 ($120) and 5830 ($155), so price/performance seems to be dead on.

I hear a lot of our prices here, you guys across the pond get the same price, just in pounds rather than dollars, which sucks. Also this card really just hit the market, so it might adjust in a week or so.

It falls short on the performance front. I was expecting at least 460SE levels(currently about 5% less and that's for the OCed variants). Also it uses the exact same core(maybe a slightly different stepping) - the power consumption proves it. I bet if you underclock/volt it to 450 levels they will perform almost identical +10W extra for the extra memory.
Hopefully in a few weeks prices will drop a bit and at that point it will be an excellent alternative.

I hope so. Other speculation is the £100 price point putting on par with a 5770. This seems about right to me.

It seems to be slightly faster than a 5770.

Looks like NewEgg has them for $149.99 and up.
You can get most 6850's for $159 after rebate with a PowerColor 6850 going for $149.99. The 5770 is listed anywhere from $99 to $119 after rebate. There are even overclocked versions of the 5770 going for $119 after rebate. The 550ti barely beats a 5770 for $30 - $50 more and gets badly beaten by the 6850 for the same or $10 more. Looks like they will need to adjust the price downward. |

and yet they seem to retail for 1300 norwegian krones and 5770 goes for 900.
yet another nvfail. I cannot say I've seen anything really compete beside GTX260 and 275 ever since the Cuda arch. yaaay for compotition.... loosing performance/watt again as usual too. I really hope GTX6 series are gonna be worth buying, cause it's starting to get booring with AMD owning graphics and intel owning cpu's. bulldozer and GTX6 series will bring semiconductor fighting back again ? |

Why is this site giving the review card a score of 8.8 and a "RECOMMENDED!" status?
The cards are all significantly slower than a 6850 for the same price! Why would they "Recommend" this card at all???? |

I also don't believe the pricing for the cards considers MIRs, because most people find them more of a hassle then they are worth(me included), and waiting 6+ months for your $20 rebate doesn't really help.

Then again if you are looking to update and already have a 4870 or a Nv260, then you're in the wrong market segment to begin with.

Asus review shows 20% Zotac review shows 16% MSI review shows 22% Palit review shows 16% So you are not willing to pay $20 more (WITHOUT REBATE) for a STOCK CLOCKED 6850 even if it is on average 19% faster? |

now if this card drops to 100 Euro's/Pounds so say around 120-130 USD, it will be a good buy, but launch prices seem a bit optimistic of Nvidia.

Don't bother with that, W1zzard and the rest of the reviewing team in this website are very nice guys. What is important is the various charts before that page.

What's the scaling supposed to be like on these things both in and of themselves and compared to 6000 series?

You're correct, I read the graph wrong. I'd definitely go with the HD6850, it is a better buy.
