Need help fast... middle of install of MCW80....

So I am installing my new Swiftech universal water block. The back plate has a little Rubber Grommet/Stopper/Pad in the middle. If I leave it installed (The stopper/pad) it will make contact with some resisters/transistors (what ever they are called) on the back of the GPU.

If I take that Pad off it will clear all those resisters/transistors on the back of the GPU but I don't know if that is safe.

Which one should I do leave it on or take off the rubber pad??? Please help quick I am in the middle of installing the thing

No it will clear everything..... So it wouldn't touch anything.....

I had a MCW60 but I don't remember what you are speaking of. If you are speaking of what looked like a ring that goes around the copper base....I think that is to help keep the card from warping if you over tighten the hardware. That didn't come with my MCW60. If we are discussing the same thing, I would assume it will work fine without it, just be careful to keep an eye on the flex of the PCB.

The back plate laying upside down showing the rubber pad. As you can see if I mount it with the rubber pad on it will lay on those Parts I pointed out in the first pick.

If I leave it on it will lay on those Resistors/Transistors and put a little presure on them....but because it's rubber I am not sure it will cause damage.

But I am also worried it will. If I leave it off.... It will clear all the Resistors/Transistors but is this pad responsible fro some kind of grounding you think???

I have a theory: that rubber pad might be placed there to create some distance between cards that are really close, so the metal backplate isn't touching another card. Since it is rubber, it shouldn't hurt it (I believe). If you are concerned about it, I don't see any harm in taking the pad off since your cards don't touch each other. But like I said, it's just a theory, so get some other, more knowledgeable individuals input on it.

The other thing I should add is that this water block was not listed as compatible with the 6950....they never said it wasn't compatible either. The holes line up.... I just and everything else is good. Plus I have seen others do it on other forums. Although... I don't belong to those forums so I can't ask them what they did. So I just dont want to end up bricking my card over something so small

I see what ur saying but it is not on the ouside between the cards it's between the PCB/GPU and the Backplate.... But you do bring up a great point about being rubber so it should be okay I will wait to hear from others too.

The rubber pad is there for isolation. It is so that the back plate doesn't make direct contact to the top of the card the block is going on. The pad should be soft and will accept the shape of the caps you are covering. I would leave it there and install it as directed. Since the back plate is metal, without the pad in place you are very likely to short out the card if you remove the pad.
