They basically just told everyone to suck it up and run the cards at bone stock unless you're throwing a water block on it. I hope the non reference models will have stronger VRM circuitry as well as better coolers for those that want to push their 590.

YES the 6990 remains king!! HOOHAH! ok me being retarded aside, I really expected more from the card. Huge OC potential even with the crashes. I saw the HD 6990 for like 750 on the egg. I expect this to be the same

its actually $699 on the egg for the Asus card. and the 6990 remains king by a massive 2-3% Even then they trade blows so i wouldnt say the 6990 is still king. its a stalemate at this point till the 28nm GPUs come out

any overclocking/overvoltaging can void your manufacturer's product warranty.

Do ya think?

Now NV is hiding behind the warranty void bullshit instead of admitting this card is unfit to be an "enthusiast" card, and is more of a something for people too faint hearted for overclocking that they'll pay for their overclocking-incompetence with buying a faster card that doesn't can't overclock.

the enthusiast now will either get a 6990 or wait for non reference GTX590 cards to release knowing of these issues

sorry that you lost your boner over this review, however honestly dont flame wizz about something he forgot to mention. These issues on the 590 about the VRM/circuitry cannot really be fixed with drivers, its a hardware issue.

Wizz did a good job on the review, i guess some people can't wrap there head around the idea that Nvidia produces cards that can sometimes fail.

As an enthusiast I love waiting. I'm going to wait for at least three years, then I'll get a card that makes these look like a low end mobile GPU.

No, they are giving the standard line that is, and always has been, true. People have gotten to comfortable with overclocking and overvolting, and have gotten to the point that they expect to be able to just max out the voltage on a graphics card, and not have any problems. Well, that isn't the case.

If you are going to overclock, there is a risk. If you are going to overvolt, there is a huge risk. I have always worked under the rule, if I can't afford to replace it, I don't overvolt it.

Or more accurately, they told everyone what should have been obvious from the beginning.

Personally, I'd leave the voltage at stock, and be happy with the fact that it overclocks to GTX580 clocks.

The first pic on the first page of the review is NOT a pic of the ASUS card. IS that it?

I figured they always have a reference design pic.

Did see this on that page:
Quote:
We have today with us a GeForce GTX 590 by ASUS, which sticks to NVIDIA's reference design, and combines it with ASUS' high quality packaging and bundle. ASUS' Voltage Tweak technology and SmartDoctor software that lets you up voltage is very much part of the package, ready to enhance your GTX 590 with overclocking. Boy oh boy.

Yea, I am just grasping at straws trying to figure this out now.

IS it the freaky weird Call of Juarez 2 1680x1050 score. That's all wacky.

Im not surprised, I quit using crossfire and such for this exact reason. Power issues, and non linear performance.

Also I agree with the final Crysis 2 comment on the review. We need to be taken seriously.

This quote does not match the screenshot provided. Screenshot reflects 1000Mhz memory, not 1080Mhz.

And why does the clock profiles reflect memory speed at 1710Mhz?

Any of these the proposed Easter Egg? Those are all the guesses I have.

That is on all the boxes that I have seen so far. But I think it is funny that all the Asus GTX590s say "Pop" right on the box. At least they are warning you.

I'm rereading this review and it's actually funny to go over it again...
It's funny that W1z used a match to show the size of the GPU....
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...mages/gpu2.jpg

Do all dual GPU cards read the shader count as a single GPU?

Well. That was a great review. Although I'm scratching my head over the fact that Guru3d.com have their gtx 590 SLI review up too. how did the manage to do that ?

Anyway. I'm glad that nvidia failed this time around, two times in a row to be exact ( last year 5970 had the crown, this year 6990). As mr. Torento said in Fast n Furious - it doesn't matter if you win by 100 miles on 1 inch - a victory is a victory. And based on all reviews that are up atm 6990 looks to be winning by that "1 inch".

What killed me was the fact that Nvidia made a video on youtube announcing that they will pull out a monster card, that they've been working on for 2 years, and that that's their best creaton yet.
Nvidia Teaser

P.S. I'm not and ATI fanboy, although I admit that I have a soft spot for "Red" team, my current rig has 580 in SLI and it rocks ( well it does till you try to play RIFT on ultra settings with all bars set to max...and have 15 fps during massive rift invasions with 100+ players running around ).
