System Specs

Onboard sound card dead.

Recently i have been having a giant case of murphys law.

I got a new video card. A Sapphire 5870 1gb ddr5 vapor-x.

My power supply Was not powerful enough so i upgraded to a Ocz ModXtream 700watt.

now my on-board audio does not detect the analog inputs anymore.

I did have a turtle beach montego ddl sound card, but when i upgraded my memory from 4gb to 8gb it stopped working (damn drivers)

The onboard audio (analog) worked untill i upgraded my video card.

Currently only digital audio works. It does not detect when i plug in my 2.1 speaker system

for troubleshooting here is what i have done.

Verified on board sound is enabled in bios.
Removed all sound drivers.
reinstalled gigabyte sound drivers.
Removed all sound drivers. (again)
installed realtek drivers.

disabled ati hdmi sound drivers.

Disabled the digial audio devices.

Made sure the speakers worked
plugged in a pair of headphones in the speaker out.

Tried plugging in the speakers to diffrent ports on the sound card.

i have rebooted more times then i can count.

The front audio for my case is not connected to the motherboard.

anyone have a cheap sound card for sale? (lol i have 13$ in my paypal account )

Fry's has one for $12.99

i'd try your ddl sound card again. a memory upgrade really shouldn't have disabled that. no drivers required for a memory upgrade. if your motherboard is randomly disabling components every time you add new hardware i'd be looking for a new motherboard.

i got a guess.

the onboard audio has the front panel header to the case, on some boards you had to remove jumpers to get it to connect. either reconnect the front panel header, or put the jumpers back on to get the audio working.

no dice on hooking up the front panel.

To make sure it wasnt driver related i booted a live ububtu cd. same issue.

i got a cheap replacement card (siig 5.1 surround sound).

Damn thing hums. the card is right next to the power supply so i will try to move it. (or replace it when i get paid)

Thanks for all the help

if i downgrade to 4gb the ddl card works again.

reminds me of old school creative labs cards, where once you got past 2gb they stopped working

i actually recall something like that, how creative cards did have memory limitations. logitech also did with their webcam software and 4GB as well, i remember that when i first went vista.

I've learned something after using creative cards for over a decade. Buy something else..... Took a long time.....
