Help! I think i screwed up!!

I was cleaning the TIM from my chip to install my new cooler on my Gigabyte x58a-ud5 Mobo (I7) and i got some fuzz and a little TIM in the mobo pins! I dont know how to fix this. Have I borked it? If not how do i clean this? The TIM is ocz Freeze.


Edit: I wascleaning the bracket when this happened, there was some TIM on the bracket i was trying to remove.

Caned Air ! Blow tat crap out . It is just fuzz you can blow on it hard and get it out . DO NOT USE ANT THING ELLS ! Lest you bend them pins an f it up for good !

But some of it is TIM, That will not blow off! I have tried canned air, and it does not move!!

Put the board in the dishwasher

No really, try with the edges of a coffee filter to get the most chunk out, then canned air would do the trick. You would just need patience and a steady hand to clean everything tho.

Ill give it a shot, i suppose a maginifying glass would help if i had one eh?

what about using toothbrush and brush ir one way following the pins then using canned air. i guess its pretty save for the socket

You can just pour some alcohol on it and use the air to blow it off . It will come out this way as well .

you shouldn't really need to clean it all out. tim shouldn't be conductive at all, but email ocz just in case.

Isopropyl alcohol is used to clean this stuff off a CPU heatspreader. Now, as you can't wipe it off the pins, I suggest pouring a little alcohol onto it. Then either try the compressed air and/or try the coffee filter paper that MRCL suggested.

There will likely be a small residue, but I don't think a very small amount will affect the CPU.

Toothbrush... Heck no! He'll bend those pins all to crap.

Use canned air for the lint, and a magnifying glass, plus a very small sewing needle, if necessary.

Spray electronics parts cleaner(good brand that does not leave residue and safe for plastics)for the TIM.

Yeah, thought that with my luck a tooth brush would do more harm than good, So, ALcohol, coffe filter magnifying glass and perhaps a sewing needle, and i should be ok. Looks like i need to make a store run, For the magnifying glass....i needed one anyway.

best way i can think of is blasting it with isopropyl alcohol. you need to find something you can use to squirt the alcohol at high pressure with.

Get a good quality glass one, not those plastic POS ones. Drug stores usually have them where the reading glasses are.

yeah dont push the toothbrush just using the tip of it on them timmed area.. or you will bend all

Bought from the egg almost exactly a year ago, i wonder if i can RMA..

Ouch, that bent pin looks painful. I doubt they'll give you a free repair, because it's obvious that this is user damage, unfortunately. Doesn't hurt to try though.

now that's f***** up .try using a needle to bend it back, if you can't, your best bet is to cut it off and hope it'll still work. there are a lot of redundant pins in the socket.

btw, that doesn't appear to be tim, only some fibers bundled up.

Nah there is tim there on the socket, its down lower in the first photo, and on the left side.

I wonder if that pin will just break?...Crap, Just bought a new freakin car, i cant afford another board!!

Yep, I see two of them, but get the magnifying glass and other stuff.
Then see, if you have a steady hand and use a toothpick to try and push them back in place.

If you want to try the RMA, go ahead all they can do is say no.

Either way, you got to do something.

oh, that tiny blob, i see it now, looks quite harmless. the pin shouldn't snap, if it bent that far without snapping already.

Morale is to never try to clean that socket ever again with anything but alcohol and compressed air. Not a place for toothpicks and the like...
