Commodore C64 is back

http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_C64.aspx

Quote:
It's back... and better than ever! The new Commodore 64 is a modern functional PC as close to the original in design as humanly possible. It houses a modern mini-ITX PC motherboard featuring a Dual Core 525 Atom processor and the latest Nvidia Ion2 graphics chipset. It comes in the original taupe brown/beige color, with other colors to follow.

Price starts at $595, but you can buy the case only for $250.

I think it's gorgeuos, but a bit expensive.

EDIT: It's worth mentioning that it comes with a Ubuntu 10.04 disc. They're apparently working on a Commodore OS as well, with a quick launch alternative for an emulator for the original OS.

This is awesomesauce. I'd grab one IF the asking price was $100 lower, just for nastalgia. The Commodore was my very first PC.

They do still actually have the Amiga OS still so they could just use that. Think its version 4.1 now.
Works on only power pc chips though.

If the case itself was cheaper it would be mind blowing. Still £365 isnt overly expensive just a little to expensive.

You can just tell someone will buy this and mod it to fuck.

Pretty sure Commodore all used the same what is it d-sub connectors the sega genesis/megadrive used for their controllers. It's was mainly just the fact it was a beast for its time, i dunno if i could stomach playing roms of c64 games but it feels different playing the real hardware for sure. Its like playstation games they where great then but hurt my eyes now.

That's not Commodore. It's just some guy who bought the rights to use the name so he could make a few bucks on stuff he buys cheap from China. You should have seen the stuff that used to be for sale on the new "Commodorfe" website. It just had Commodore stickers stuck over the Chinese company names.

And, IMO... the guy/s or/and gal/s is/are just trying to make a buck in this little old world. No harm in that.
If you look a lot of the stuff you have, probably, is made China or elsewhere... it is the way of the world today.
Some may not like it, but it is whatz it is.

More power to them for trying and kudos, if they pull it off.

So, what other classic computers could do with a makeover like this?

I nominate the BBC Micro and the BBC Master.

Damn, I want it! And I wasn't even a Commodore fan at the time. I was an Acorn man.

The thing to do of course, is to never use it. I'm sure it'll fetch a good price at auction in a decade or so.

Chucky Egg, I remember it! lol.

I thought of the original Speccy, but I'm wondering what kind of tiny PC mobo would go in it? It would use an Atom CPU for sure.

Yes, I remember Chucky Egg and Monty Mole and Skool Daze and Elite on the BBC, still, I think the general consensus was that Way of the Exploding Fist was better on the C64

Don't know about Way of the Exploding Fist, i was playing more games on the Speccy 48\128 more often than not and odd others like Ikari Warriors, R-Typ ( want a PC remake :P ), Flying Shark, Great Escape and ATF. Even was playing a flight sim with 2 joysticks and to think it's hard to find games still today like that lol. Then Microprose came a long and made my day with flight sims but sadly are not around these days .. A game i wish i could remember playing on the specrum was like risk sort off were you would have to move squares around and attack other enemy's and take over his islandsit was a war game you even had ships well a picture of a ship in a square lol.
