Which psu is best for my setup?
Hey guys, I was wondering which psu would be better for a system that has two radeon hd6950's (unlocked shaders and overclocked to 6970) in crossfire setup and a i5-2500k cpu with a moderate overclock.

you donīt want a psu with just 2 pcie 6pin to power 2x 6950??? like the corsair.
and donīt save money on powersupply. with your setup i would go for 750 or 850 watt. there should be some good corsair or antec for 30$ more. http://www.amazon.com/Antec-Computer...2258937&sr=1-1 Last edited by basco; Apr 8, 2011 at 10:39 AM. |

well the advice that is most given on this site is never skimp on a PSU. Look at my rig, I have a Corsair HX 1000 in it and it only pulls 450-500 watts @ full load. Also if you have a thread in another sites forums that has several responses, why come here and ask whats best?

I'm running a Corsair TX750 with 2 6950's and havent noticed any power issue yet. I think my psu was like $115 like a month back. I wish I had gotten the 850 though...

I would go with the highest wattage you can afford
Think of it this way, if u get an 800 - 1000 watt PSU you should be set for at least another build or 2 with it...Edit: Ahh i see now, going at it from all Forum angles. My bad :P more opinions the better

get a good 750w unit with 2 6pin and 2 6+2pin PCIE connectors go for a good brand
those opinions are fine but they dont take capacitor agining into account as a powersupply ages it slowly becomes unable to supply its full power thus why most will suggest a higher wattage unit im running 2x 6970s on an 850w psu and im still when fully overclocked pulling around 650-700w when i heat peak so while yea a 650w unit can do the trick id be hitting the max of the unit all the time under intense loads more often you hit that line the more often something is to go POP. get a 750w minimum for dualcards recommending an 850w for reliable power long term. 750w units XFX XFX Black Edition P1-750B-CAG9 750W ATX12V v2.2 / ... most people donīt look for the specs just wattage.
so the xfx units are fine(also the corsair except of only 2x pcix) but i always recommend a little bit more and its the only part of a pc i take with me to the next build. i have my corsair 100hx for 4-5 years now and hope for more to come. |
