GTX570 for F@H, is safe?
Hi, a couple of months ago I've read here at the forums a thread about some gtx570 killed/burned while using furmark or another stress test when overclocking, but I can't find it.
Yesterday, I received a bday gift (PoV GTX570 TGT UC). ![]() I don't want to overclock it, nor playing with its power limiter nor raise voltage. I just want to use it at factory default settings for daily use, some gaming and of course increase my ppd in F@H. But I'm doubtful about this last one. I mean f@h gpu client stress a lot any gpu, so what do you think? Would it be safe? Is there any chance of killing the card? Thanks in advance.- |

I don't think so. Even though while folding it will show 99% GPU usage, the GPU won't heat up like it would with say Furmark at 99% load. I don't think F@H uses all of the GPU. Just make sure you aren't overvolted in any way and that your have suficient cooling.

Quote:
F@H > data goes in > calculations done > data moved out > data processed into file Furmark >calculations done > results dismissed and calculations done again As such fur-mark achieves a Level of gpu usage no useful program will ever create due to the lack of data transfer through memory buffer, pci-e slot etc, that is why it is unsafe as the gpu's were just not designed to work in the way furmark makes them
