Pulling a Harddrive Killed my Motherboard?!RESOLVED

I can't believe this happened but here it is:

I decided to pull out one of my three HDDs from my GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R. Powered it back up and it tried to start up for about 3 seconds and then restarted. Did not get to the bios at all...this happened about 3 times. I shut off the power supply and turned it back on...same thing and after about 45secs-1min it is completely dead. I checked the power supply with a paperclip and the fans fired up without a hitch. All cables were exactly as they were when the computer was working for the past two years and I double checked for any possible shorts, but nothing.

Has anyone heard of this before? I have tried contacting gigabyte but have not received any response yet. I don't understand how pulling a HDD would cause a board to die.

Thanks

you should have a cmos reset jumper/button on your motherboard. reset cmos first and see if you can get into the bios.

is it making any beeps?

For future reference, if you ever do anything to your computer components such as replacing/upgrading, always ground yourself by touching the metal part of your power supply every now and again. Or if you really want to make sure your grounded, get an anti-static wrist strap.
I don't know anything about beeps, but just throwing in my 2 cents anyway

Supposedly 1 beep from an Award BIOS means system is OK... definitely try a reset.

Was it your boot drive that you took out?

happita:I did indeed touch the body of my case and grounded myself.

1freedude: by all screws do you mean the ones that kept the HDD in? If so, then yes...my case has sliding HDD holders so there are no screws...

Sasqui: Sounds good...it was not the boot drive, just extra storage. I'm excited to see if resetting will fix it! If it does indeed work, could the CMOS battery have caused this? Maybe getting low on juice?

same board and it can be really finicky. Definetly reset the cmos and see if that helps but I swear mine goes through moods.

Yeah... my video card hates me for some reason. One BSOD from the video card (I can tell because it says something about some nvidia DLL in the BSOD) and the system acts crazy forever until I reset the CMOS. That also seems to cure the video card issues... one BSOD from a bad overclock or gremlins is all it takes to make my system go haywire until I clear the CMOS.

i guess better take the board off the case and inspect it
take off all stuff then clean it or try reset the bios
if you just take off the hdd it shouldnt kill the board theres something that missed
