5970 crossfire stopped working. Is my card broken?
Crossfire no longer works. In games, there is no activity on second GPU, checked using ATI monitor, MSI afterburner, and Radeonpro. Temperature gauges still work. GPU clock of non activity GPU stays at 157 while other increases to 735 under load, memory clock stays at 300.
Working GPU readings seem ok. Checked in Catalyst Control center, other adapter says "Disabled Adapter". Here is info: ---------------------- Primary Adapter Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by AMD Graphics Chipset ATI Radeon HD 5900 Series Device ID 689C Vendor 1002 Subsystem ID C000 Subsystem Vendor ID 174B Graphics Bus Capability PCI Express 2.0 Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express 2.0 x2 BIOS Version 012.013.000.002 BIOS Part Number 113-C00001-OC8 BIOS Date 2009/11/16 Memory Size 1024 MB Memory Type GDDR5 Core Clock in MHz 735 MHz Memory Clock in MHz 1010 MHz Total Memory Bandwidth in GByte/s 129.3 GByte/s Disabled Adapter Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by AMD Graphics Chipset ATI Radeon HD 5900 Series Device ID 689C Vendor 1002 Subsystem ID C000 Subsystem Vendor ID 174B Graphics Bus Capability PCI Express 2.0 Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express 2.0 x2 BIOS Version 012.013.000.002 BIOS Part Number 113-C00001-OC9 BIOS Date 2009/11/16 Memory Size 1024 MB Memory Type GDDR5 Core Clock in MHz 735 MHz Memory Clock in MHz 1010 MHz Total Memory Bandwidth in GByte/s 129.3 GByte/s --------------------- Noticed "Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express 2.0 x2" instead of x16. Fully removed drivers and reinstalled same result. Downgraded to 10.9 drivers, same result. Tried putting card in other PCI-e slots, same result. Plugged a 5770 in motherboard, it shows up as x16 so it looks like its the video card. Updated motherboard bios, same result. Card was working fine with crossfire until recently. Got new harddisk and installed windows, 11.4 drivers and CCC, checked CCC information, still says Maximum Bus Setting is x2, and second adapter is still "Disabled Adapter" I tried 11.2, 10.9 drivers too, no improvement, tried like 4 different verions of older motherboard bios, same thing. |

I have a 5970 but can't really offer any substantial help to this issue, sry.
It sounds like either: 1. The card is broken, or 2. The PCI-E slot is broken maybe test your card in another system, that's all I can suggest.

Hi sorry to hear you are having issues; from what you have mentioned in your post it looks as if the crossfire bridge chip may be damaged. If your 5970 is still in warranty I would say to RMA as soon as possible. (be prepared for a wait; from experience the process can take up to thirty days or more in some cases)

does it still function by its self ?
could be funky driver issues or a bad crossfirebridge
