Couple questions on old stuff

Hi guys this is for older of you who still remember about XP settings :P

QUESTIONS:

1-What is the minimal memory for Windows XP pro 32bits and what is the recommended memory to keep it rolling better than minimal ?

2- (Onboard AGP 4X video with 64megs maximum shared memory SiS630ET chipset coupled to a 133mhz fsb-cpu with pc133 memory) or (PCI video card PNY Verto Geforce FX5200 256megs)?

3- If I put a 512megs pc133 and a 128megs pc133 both SYNC memory could it still work correctly with Windows XP pro 32bits if I put the shared memory to the maximum of 64megs for the onboard video card?

The issue is more that the GPU you listed is actually Onboard Video, meaning it takes away from the CPU\RAM for a lot of it's functionality. If your motherboard does have a 4x AGP slot, then an AGP card would be much better than a PCI one. As it stands though, a PCI GPU would be infinitely better than Onboard, especially legacy onboard solutions that were notoriously terrible...

More may be needed for certain applications.

The 2nd option.

1.) 128MB is the minimum for Windows XP. The more RAM though the better.
2.) Much better if you use a discrete video card.
3.) It will work.

Since you're talking about an SiS630ET that would mean you woulh have a PIII or Celeron processor.

With SP3 even 512MB isnt enough anymore, i would go 1GB to be safe and happy (if you can) and a total of 2GB is all you need ever for XP.

Such an old rig should really be running a lightweight Linux distro. I have a Pentium III laptop which is quite usable with Vector Linux on it (and there are lighter distros out there).

I hate linux because i dont understand it really well. Gonna have to study some basic commands and test it on other old crappy computer.

For the 2 others ... old socket 370 mobo where mostly 2 slots and on these the max per slots were 512megs. The highest quality ones were max 1.5 gigs on 3 or 4 slots. I have a basic mobo with 2 slots and already populated them.
