6970 Idling at 62C
Going to try uninstalling and reinstalling the latest Catayst and drivers today when I get home.
Basically I've noticed a few funky things. Occasionally my system will seemingly "freeze". I usually hit the reset button at this point but I decided to wait it out the other day and after about a minute it came to again and told me the AMD drivers had quit working. Ok Hmm... When I start up catalyst, the window seems to lose "focus" 20-30 times rapidly and during this time I can't click anything in the catalyst window and I'm getting the "loading, wait" wheel spinning. It'll come to and be fine after that. When I try to manually set the fan speed in Catalyst it doesn't do anything... I can't hear the fan spin up any more at 100% than I can anything else. I had MSI Afterburner for a little while but decided I didn't want any hassle and would rather run at stock everything than try and troubleshoot occasionally. Anyone else had this issue? I'm not sure what version catalyst or drivers I'm using right now so I can't offer that information just yet. I'll look when I get back home and I'll update everything and see if that solves it. Anyone else experienced anything like this? |

What clocks were you trying to run your 6970? Does it crash while it is idle or while you are gaming? What are your load temps? Do you get the same symptoms at stock speeds?

50c-60c is normal for having two monitors plugged in. 40c-50c with one monitor.
Is this a reference card, or a OEM-custom design?

I'm running tri-screens.
It's an XFX 6970. Driver version 8.801.0.0 Catalyst Version 2010.1125.2142.38865 |

Then the temps are not the issue, although there might be something else up, given the behavior you have described.
Flicker upon CCC opening may be multi-screen related, too. There seems to still be some issues with Eyefinity groupings, from what I've tested, so much so that I've gone down to one monitor. I try to not use 3rd party tools for OC. RacerX mod will allow for higher clocks in CCC negating the need for tools to change MHz, volts...well...

Still, I am of the opinion it's not really Eyefinity that is the issue, but having to use different output types that causes the issue. If thay were all DP, or all DVI(adapters don't count), maybe it'd work better, but of course, I do motherboards, not VGAs, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

well it's certainly all working like it's supposed to now that I updated to the latest CCC. I did a complete removal not just the express so that it'd remove literally everything and install the latest AMD driver as well - everything seems to be working like it's supposed to.
It's now idling at 56C which is more like it used to with 2 screens (used to be 50-52 if I remember correctly). I'll post if I have any more "AMD driver quit working" messages pop up. |
