Dungeon Siege III - 6-21-2011

Dungeon Siege III is supposed to be release June 21st.
It's supposed to be an open world (non-linear if you don't want to follow the story) game with what looks like some decent eye candy.

Anyone else keeping an eye on this?

Me. Wonder if it's less of a dungeon hack and slash than DSII was.

I'm not sure, Paulie, but after reading various previews, this is looking more enticing than Diablo III.
More of the dark, gritty kind of RP of the old RPGs.
We shall see.

Been watching/waiting for this game for a loooong time. Very excited. From the previews I have watched on steam it's looking good. I also hope it stays a hack/slash and doesn't turn into a dragon age.

I'll only be interested if the engine is solid. Anyone know what they are using for an engine?

It is called Onyx, but I can't figure out if that is the same Onyx engine Ubisoft built or if it is a totally new engine built by Obsidian and named the same. Either way supposed to be a new engine and highly moddable by the community.

edit...

Just read it is a new engine created by Obsidian.

Hmm, hope it's better than the first one. The first was OK, but I got stuck in the damned mines 5 times and finally sold it off.

The first game was kind of simple IMO, hack and slash with little focus on skill management. But I played through it and the Aranna expansion a few times. The second installment seemed harder, you needed to think a bit more strategic than just charging in and slashing everything to a pulp. I remember I loved the graphics in DS2, especially in the forest parts. The sunlight seeping through the treetops, the beautiful landscapes... Very nice. I might give DS3 a whirl.

It's made by Obsidian, they're solid. Will try it when it comes.

Actually, their trackrecord is poor. Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas were made by them. Alpha Protocol was good in theory but poorly executed. Most people also think Fallout: New Vegas is a poor in comparison to Fallout 3. My hopes are not high but Obsidian could always change.

That is a sacrilegious statement...

I loved the first Dungeon Siege, and the second one was still pretty good. I am actually really excited for this game, might reinstall DS1 just for kicks since it's rotting away on my shelf >.<

While I will admit those two games were subpar, they did a great job taking over NWN and made a rather excellent Kotor Port\Sequal. Fallout 3 was a borderline masterpiece so it's hard to make a game on par for that ;p

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. I've always played on PC, but I just got a PS3 and since this will be available on consoles, I might have to try it out there.

NWN2 was a fail in any ways than one too( mostly multiplayer ). Same here don't think much of them my self either sme with Gearbox too but hopfully Duke will not fail as it's mostly done by some others but thinking that will have DLC's soon after release from all the crap they probably ripped out of it lol.

I'll get it when they have released a demo as i don't like them and never really liked the 1st two.

DS3 is definitely on my radar, I played the crap out of the first one, never bothered with the second.
