i don't think it will, be a bottle neck, i have ran a GTX460 on a E8400 clocked at 4ghz and it ran perfect and i changed it with a Q6700 that just made it better and when i got my i7-860 it was still a pretty nice card, but again if u don't use Cuda/PhysX go with AMD/ATi u will get more performance for less money.

I am going to go out on a limb and say it probably will Bottleneck a little bit. My HD5850 bottlenecked when I had my Q6600 (even when overclocked) despite people insisting it shouldn't.

@ what resolution do you play? Your Q6600 runs at 4gig? Most games still only use 2 cores or less, more multi-threadded games are appearing of course but they are still outnumbered considerably.

I say it depends on the game you play. Play some CPU intensive games like Starcraft 2 and it will, but play some cpu lite games like CoD:MW2 it will be fine. After all, BlackPanther used a 5970 for her E8400 and she doesn't complain much.

it won't be a bottleneck. i have tested my 6850 on my e8400 equivalent.
at 4ghz the card continues to scale upwards with higher memory and core. the same as it does at 4.5ghz. that is only at 1440*900 tho, as my monitor will not go higher.

I'm using a 560 Ti with my e7200 clocked at almost 4ghz and I don't think I'm bottlenecked. Of course, I'm not really sure how I would be able to tell lol.

Reduce/increase your CPU OC. If it drastically changes the framerate, then the processor is bottlenecking. Otherwise, it will be other components.

Your E8400 gives esentially the same performance as my Q9650 in games that don't use more two cores. I'm pretty sure my Q9650 and your E8400(in games that don't use more than two cores) can handle a 560ti. I wouldn't say that about a GTX580, but a 560ti.....

Thanks everyone!
I've been able to reach 4.4Ghz and stable 100%. Do you guys think if I go 4.4Ghz, the video card will operate at full potential? But I play shooters at 1680x1050, as for some reason, my monitor won't let me go 1920x1080. Games like Crysis and Bad Company 2, it keeps saying that my monitor is "Out of Range". However, games like League of Legends, Starcraft 2, and a few others allow me to go 1920x1080. Does anybody know why? |

I think so
Hmm, I don't think I notice any difference between 3.5 and 3.9.

The main 2 games you mentioned are both rather CPU-dependant. BFBC2 especially, and if you plan on getting BF3 expect that to be even MORE CPU-friendly since it is using a newer version of the Frostbite engine with all sorts of fun Graphical Elements enabled. No matter what, going from a 4870 to a 560Ti you'll probably see a sizable performance increase, and that is a fantastic card (wish I had one). So if you plan on doing a rebuild for a new CPU in the near future anyway (next year or two) you might as well just get the card now and enjoy it.

I need to re-do my v-droop mod as i can;t reach 4.4ghz anymore at the voltages i want (1.45v) so i run down at 4.3ghz for gaming atm.

Load-Line Calibration: [Disabled] Vcore: [1.48v] CPU Termination: [1.2v] CPU PLL: [1.7v] CPU Reference: (somewhere around) [0.850v] MCH Core: [1.5v] MCH Reference: (somewhere around) [0.850v] ICH I/O: [1.850v] OR [1.750v] (can't remember) ICH Core: [1.4v] I played Bad Company 2 for hours, did not crash at all - still used Windows Apps after hours of BC2 - still no crash. I'm sure I put too much voltage in some places where it is not needed, so I'll have to do a lot more tweaking in the future. I tried doing 4.5Ghz, just does not work. I've done some research and apparently. P45 boards just can't take an FSB of 500x9.0. However, anything below 500 works perfectly. I am using a Gigabyte board, so I also had to set my 'MCH Frequency Latch' to [400Mhz], and then my 'System Memory Multiplier (SPD)' to [2.00D], to stabilize the RAM. And if I recall, my TEMPS (according to RealTemp), hover around 60c, with 65c being the all-time high (when running IBT). Prime95 gives me an all-time high of around 55c, and hovers around 48c. But will it run at 1200 as opposed to 1080? trying to work out why you cannot run it at 1080..... My monitor is full HD however it runs at 1200 NOT 1080 which of course is an even higher resolution, I was asking because if it's a 1200 then it won't run at 1080 by default unless scaled in Movies.
