Integrated Graphics Crashing

I built a computer out of some spare parts, and I'm having a very weird issue with the integrated graphics.

Computer Specs:
Intel 915GUX Desktop mATX Motherboard
Pentium 4 531 3.00GHz Processor (1MB L2, Hyperthreading)
SparklePower 350W PSU
OCZ DDR2 1066 running at 533 MHz (What the motherboard supports)

Anyway, the computer usually POSTs fine, but once I try to start any OS (tried two Linux distros and Win7) it does this:



I have gone through the BIOS and changed all the settings relating to the integrated graphics with no success. The processor has been tested (though not by me) and is supposedly working. Everything else I have used previously and works. The motherboard was new (sealed). Am I dealing with a defective integrated graphics chip? That just seems really unlikely. Any ideas you could provide would be much appreciated; I'd like to get this working. Unfortunately, I don't have a videocard I can use, but it seems odd that the graphics chip would POST fine but then crash. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like an overheating problem, has the heatsink fallen of

Either overheating or RAM issue, at least thats what it looks like to me.

No, and I felt it with my hand; it wasn't very hot. The only other thing is that I'm using a C2D heatsink with the Pentium 4, but that seems unlikely to be a huge issue. Is that maybe the problem?

The RAM passed memtest86+, so I doubt that's the problem.

Okay, just kidding. Happened again. I think the P4 may be overheating, as the temperatures the BIOS measures on bootup are high. (40-50C) The thing is, I'm using a normal Intel stock heatsink (for a Pentium Dual Core, but it's the same heatsink that comes with normal LGA775 P4s). I have reapplied thermal paste, switched coolers (to another of the same model), and updated the BIOS to no avail. Since the cooler certainly should be sufficient, what is wrong? Is the P4 chip's sensor defective, and if so, what can I do to stop it from crashing? Thanks!

Updates:
Overheating isn't the issue. I managed to get it running long enough to install Windows, and IntelBurnTest didn't cause it to crash, so that's not the problem. The crashes are seemingly random, sometimes when Windows is loading, sometimes when I'm doing barely anything. Do you think that the integrated graphics are just defective?

Yes, that's what I was going to post. Make sure you have the correct motherboard chipset drivers installed and it would be a good idea to remove the north bridge heatsink, reapply TIM and try again.
