Temperatures high with watercooling

Hello everyone!

Little while back, while browsing tech powerup forums, I decided to download gpu-z as a reliable tool for monitoring my PC.
I was amazed to find that my temperatures were high, and under load they would go up to 100c

I wouldn't be so shocked, if I didn't have a watercooler.
http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-57...water-770.html

I got Ati radeon HD 4890 as my graphics card.

Here is my temperatures idle.

Here it is under a bit of stress from furmark

Is there a way to lower the temperatures? I play graphically intense games, so I wish there were no issues in there.
Do I need to add more system specs?

Thanks for your response in advance

Thats a CPU cooler. Do you also have the GPU WC?

water cooling your CPU wont do anything for the temps of your video card.

That.

Now, you can try to increase the GPU fan speed (at the cost of increased noise). Been a while since I had an AMD/ATI video card, so I don't recall where exactly you do it in the CCC (I think in the "overdrive" screen).

I use MSI Afterburner

or adding some fans will improve your case airflow so your graphic card temp would lower

You are correct. Part of the reason i'm asking here, is to learn more on everything.
I deserved that pun

Also I seem to have misunderstood some gpu temps as cpu temps.. whops (explains why it's called gpu-z )

I've used CCC to manually raise fanspeed, but I'd prefer less noise while playing.
I don't think I have enough room for more fans (i got 4)
Are there any other ways that I could use to cool gpu?

Are these kinds of temperatures normal?

HD4890s are hot, hot, hot cards. You aren't the first one to have them skyrocket to 100C under load. What are your ambient temperatures, btw?

There are a few things you could do:
1) Clean the cooler itself. It is probably full of dust. A can of compressed air can do wonders here. Just blow through the cooler in both directions.
2) Buy an aftermarket cooler for it (Will help the most, but voids your warranty, if any, and can be a bit tricky to install).
3) Take it apart and replace the thermal paste between the GPU and the cooler (Can be challenging/tricky and the gain usually isn't impressive).

I have compressed air so that I shall do, i've cleaned interior a couple of times, but never really concentrated on gpu cooler. My room temperature varies around 20-25 celsius, so i'd guess it's okay.

So buying aftermarket cooler would replace the original? I figure i'd also have to find one that fits. btw do they come with instructions (not that i wouldn't want to experiment, but i really don't want to break it by doing something stupid)?

I have no idea how to do the third one so i'll just leave that there.

Well, if you do 3, you will end up doing 2 in the process. The coolers come with instructions, of course. Finding one that fits isn't very hard: They specify which cards they are compatible with. I've no real recommendation for you on one, though, but I am sure someone will happen along shortly.

Just clean it first, it might be all you need to do.

It would not cost a lot of money (possibly less than a cooler) to buy a more modern and faster GPU set up that runs cool. In the meantime - just blow some more air in the case and stop checking it with furmark!

You'll need 100+ $ to beat a HD4890's performance.

Actually now when I check your screenshots backward again,in Furmark under 100% load, with your gpus fan at 50% getting 95 degrees is nothing abnormal really...ask us,guys with monsters like GTX 480,how are the temps in furmark or you now what, don ask LOL

Thank you all for helping me out!

Seems I just overreacted on those temps without much knowledge on the matter.
I just assumed that 30-40 degrees would be kind of a norm on idle gpus.

I'll clean the interior often and understand that fan will go loud sometimes.
I think i'll get a new gpu eventually.
