Future of TPU Download Section

With most game demos either being released exclusively on Steam or not at all I wonder which direction our download section should be going.

We have tons of unused bandwidth (hundreds of TBs each month), which we could possibly put to a better use.

Any ideas? It should still live in the whole hardware ecosystem though.

Sublease the bandwidth and bring in revenue to support your vga addiction.

You could stockpile more database-like material: drivers, BIOS's, or news.

Well you could beef up other parts of the download section of TPU.

Add an Free Essential software section and host downloads for basic needs software you can get for free. Things like Songbird, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, 7-Zip, CCleaner, uTorrent, Pidgin, Opera, Firefox, Chrome, etc. A few of these are in the download section, but they are all so out of date, no one is going to download them. If they were updated and kept updated, I am sure more TPU members would download this stuff here.

If would be easier to check for updates to all that freeware on one site.

You could offer your bandwidths to an open project like being a SourceForge download mirror.

I need some more room for my porn addiction. How about i rent some?

On a serious note... How about offering a place for popular game updates? I for one know that some sites limit to a low download speed and i can max out from TPU

I would dump the game demos and patches man. Like you said I go to the website itself to make sure I get the latest version. Maybe use that extra bandwidth to relaunch GPU again?! I couldn't contribute last time because of my job but if you launch it again you got my support.......whatever thats worth lol.

Video reviews.

EDIT: To clarify, instead of all those pictures in the video card reviews, you can just replace them with a single video clip. Unboxing the card, card installed.
Same for case reviews, and motherboard reviews (hoping that takes off)

Even game reviews if you get the people to do it.

With proper lighting, pictures are some work, but video is exponentially more work, and I don't think you could just replace the pics with video...both would still need to be done.

I'd love to do video reviews but editing takes more time than just writing it up.

If you can roll back to bandwidth to save money i'd do that before all else i know the TPU GPU-Z competitions were popular so it would be great if you could do them without sponsorship from companies using the money that would of gone to bandwidth

That is fair enough. Though a gaming review would be great. That's just recording the game play, and implementing a voice over. That can't be that difficult for the more experienced computer user out there.

Providing these reviews were "official" and followed a specific format. Though obviously, one persons favourite game, is another persons hated game, it's all down to the individual.

The way i see it allot of TPU users have smartphones the amount of mobile traffic would easily exceed the almost nill bandwidth being used by the games section now.
Being able to easily read news, reviews, check pm's, latest forum post's, upload images etc would be quite useful to alot of ppl.

Not that this all cant be done now on a mobile browser, but it could be optimized.

Another idea would be user drop boxes to store stuff and share links to it, the issue of illegal content remains tho.

i don't see why that issue exists. there are TONS of ways for people to store illegal content already.

I'd like to see a games database, but I'm not sure if that fits into the "hardware ecosystem".
I think it would get a fair amount of traffic if there was a lot of good information.

Yea but if someone host a crack or keygen for something here and then links it on other websites I figured it would cause problems with Wizz getting DMCA take down notices and the like
