Question about powertune

Hi guys,

Just upgraded from a set of 5850's to a set of 6970s 2 days ago.

after settling down a bit after spending hours doing the rebuild I was wondering if Increasing powertune to +20% but not overclocking the card would give me any performance increase??

Im just running the card at stock at the moment, and im not really thinking about overclocking the card as it does heat up a fair bit. Im getting around 70-81'c in BC2 with HBAO and AA/AAF all maxed out.

(i know some of you might say that 2x6970s are wasted on a 1080x1920 resolution -- but i'll be looking to upgrade to a 27" monitor somewhere down the line)

Hi

"When PowerTune is set to +20%, the total power consumption reaches 398W: (398-110)*0.9 = 260W for the HD 6970. With this setting, the GPU core clock is set to the max value (880MHz) all the time resulting a GPU usage of 100%. With this setting, FurMark is not limited and overclockers can really tweak GPU parameters to find max stable values."

If you are not hitting enough FPS in games with 2x 6970's in crossfireX then you have another bottleneck in your system. In short unless you are dead set on overclocking your hardware to set a new world record there is no point in manualy adjusting these settings, all you will end up with is more heat in and around your system.

hope this helps
